After watching the first 3 Subnautica videos you posted I decided to play Subnautica and man, I freaking love this game. The main thing that always makes me come back to Subnautica is the soundtrack. It is such a banger, specially the music you hear in the Shallows (start area). And another banger is the music you hear when you push your Cyclops submarine a little too hard. I always purposely drive my Cyclops at full speed just to hear that music. I wish this game had a jukebox like Below Zero. It would be awesome to just rock up around the map driving the Cyclops and running over fish while listening to some banging soundtrack.

If you don't mind tips on tools: You should def get that Thermoblade. Besides dealing more damage, it instantly cooks edible fauna like Peepers so you don't have to worry about using a Fabricator or carrying cooked stuff with you. The Propulsion Cannon should be a must-have in your wreck explorations. It's basically this game's Gravity Gun. And its counterpart could help you with the annoying predators (and it doesn't deal damage at all, which's great for us animal lovers).

You're making very fast progress because you decided to build your base near the alien cannon where all the hostile aliens are - most people build their home base near the shallow coral reef where your lifepod was because its safer. As a side note I think its pretty dangerous because if the teleporting aliens can forcibly extract you from your seamoth I think there's a chance they can extract you from your base if you are behind glass - especially in your observatory sleeping chambers. However, the benefit of your location is that, if you dive deeply enough, you have access to a lot of technology and resources that seem to be clumped together. Not to mention, the island itself is a treasure trove for lithium which is needed for more advanced seafaring vessels. The real difficulty in this game will be navigating some of the deeper parts of the map which can be maze-like at times and filled with dangerous predators. Try to make as much use of the beacons as you can, they will help a lot in this regard

8:45 well, water is actually a rather bad conductor of electricity, though it may be a somewhat large charge at first, those are mostly just stray sparks, so it’d be somewhat fine from a distance Edit: guy who replied to this comment summed it up a lot better, check it!
@TehCakeIzALie124 күн бұрын
_Pure_ water is a relatively poor conductor. _Saltwater_ (i.e. seawater, in Subnautica as well as real life) is literally _several orders of magnitude_ more conductive, to the point that it could theoretically be used in circuitry. However, because saltwater itself is so conductive, an electric shock is actually less likely to be fatal in seawater compared to somewhat-impure freshwater - the path of least resistance for the current is through the water, rather than through the person! However, in this case the current path has no real reason to travel _away_ from the conductive materials of the ship itself. Maybe more importantly, a current leaking into water wouldn't be visible as electrical arcs - the most you'd see would be tiny bubbles from electrolysis - which tells me that we're mostly working on rule-of-cool here; the electricity is supposed to be less of a hazard and more like special effects. This episode of pedantry brought to you by: me finally getting to use my degree for something, anything, lmao :')

Re your rant about saving versus respawning: Neither is immersive, as neither exists in real life. The whole concept of undoing mistakes or evading the consequences by trying again is one of the biggest immersion killers throughout the history of computer games. Personally, I enjoy being able to save and reload, because it is convenient and I am a risk-averse wuss, but Subnautica is more than forgiving when it comes to dying - indefinitely, without consequences beyond dropping the items collected since leaving the base/lifepod. If you want immersion, try games like EVE Online, which are brutally punishing due to all losses being permanent and irreversible. People routinely lose ships and equipment which took months of work and time investment by whole groups of players. Now *that* stings, while Subnautica is cuddling players, unless they choose the one-death-game-over mode.

Just so you know, there are some mods on the nexus that you might want. Specifically, an auto-save and quick save mod, OR a "keep inventory" mod. I wouldn't recommend any other mods per se for a first playthrough, but something to fix the saves might be all you need.
