This is great! Note: rebreathers are _much_ more effective when you equip them. When you talk about needing better gear to deal with the oxygen issues in the depths... you have it. It's in your inventory. You just need to put it on, instead of the radiation mask. Note 2: It is advisable to switch back to the radiation mask when going into high-rads areas.

You always start in the Safe Shallows biome, but your location there is random

NOBODY SPOIL ANYTHING ABOUT THIS GAME HE DESERVES TO EXPERIENCE IT IN ALL ITS GLORY

The Subnautica game world is not randomized, but the initial placement of the escape pod is, slightly. It always lands somewhere within the Safe Shallows biome in the middle of the map. It can also drift from its starting position, if given a nudge by a vehicle.

Good start to this series! I imagine that you've already figured out that your rebreather isn't currently equipped in the videos that have already been recorded. A mechanic that isn't mentioned anywhere, I think, is that you move a little slower in water when holding something in your hand(seaglide excluded, obviously). I'm very excited to see you discover and progress!

Your infection is part of the plot, Jon. Doesn't matter what water you drink. Your Seaglide also has multiple settings wherein the built-in flashlight and topographical map are on/off. Also important to note: If you run out of oxygen, you don't lose health. The screen slowly goes black (during which you have ~2 seconds grace period to get oxygen again) and then you *DIE*.

21:35 Yes. If both your Food and Water meters are above 80%, you’ll regain Health slowly. Also, you swim more slowly if you hold an item or fish in your hand. On desktop, the E key returns the held item to inventory. Presably console has a similar function.

You're doing great so far! Subnautica is all about venturing off path and discovering every aspect of the world, so don't worry about getting off track. This game is beautiful and you'll want to enjoy it to the fullest. Having 2 fully upgraded tanks is never a bad option, by the way.

Glad you're picking this up again! Little tip regarding enemies: Circle around them instead of trying to swim directly away from sharks and whatnot. They are faster than you, but less manouverable. PS: You don't need to worry about what type of water you're drinking. Its unrelated to infection, but I like the logic!

Jon, the islands aren't DLC, they just don't spawn in until you're pretty close. You can kinda pick out where they are on the horizon because they have some clouds over where they are in a desperate attempt to explain why they're invisible at distance.

It's unfortunate that Jon got a little bit hung up by the inability to build something as important as the Seamoth, but otherwise, he's made impressive progress with most of the early game tech. Go, Jon, go!

I can already tell this series is going to be fantastic. Also quality of life tip: The sea glide has a flashlight on it, so you can dump your old one to free up some inventory space.

The map is the same layout in terms of the biomes and the orientation of everything. and you will always start in the safe shallows biome but where exactly in the safe shallows biome is random

It's here, it's finally here folks!

This is one of my favorite games ever, I've already watched around 20 other people play it (I don't have a problem, I can stop any time), so what's one more?

Day 1 of telling Jon that he can bind the scroll wheel to one of his action keys and each scroll counts as multiple inputs of that action. It's pretty fantastic because normally you have to click four times where as Jon could just scroll once. He does have to be running at at least 30 FPS and he wants to scroll slowly, not quickly, because scrolling quickly actually makes it worse.

Thank You for doing this, I know it is kind of hard for You. You can get through this. Remember this has terror and not much horror. Have a Good One, Mate!!

“Maybe stay away from sandsharks until I’ve got armor or guns.” PDA: I told you, weapons were removed from standard survival blueprints following the massacre on Obraxis Prime. The knife remains the only exception. As for armor, there technically isn’t any, really. You could use the prawn suit for both, I guess, but that isn’t their purpose.

Finaly ! Jon is playing Subnautica, only AFTER he played Resident Evil, cose fish are dreadful, vampires and zombies - not so much. Yeah, that makes sense!

@Many A True Nerd - Without a spoiler, there will be a bread crumb event that will include a timer and a destination, for sake of narrative and world building you should really be at the destination when the timer runs out. It's one of the "big reveals" of the game.

Fun fact Jon, there are at least two kinds of North, there's geographical north, which is defined by the way the planet spins, i.e. planets always, by definition, spin west moving towards the east, so the sun, definitionally always rises in the east, the other common north pole is the magnetic north pole of the planet, which, even though we call it the magnetic north pole, is a magnetic south pole, because the magnet in a compass, the north part of it points north, and opposites attract, so that's a giant mess, but not every planet has a magnetic field, and it doesn't have to line up with the axis of rotation of a planet, in fact Earth's magnetic field switches every 10,000 years or so, except right now it's 100,000 years late

I realize this is super late, so you probably already know at this point. But just in case, where your pod spawns is random, but it's always in the shallows. Generally the zone is pretty small, but it is a random location every time.

Hey Jon, assuming you haven't figured it out yet, crafting equipment like your rebreather will auto equip it if the equipment slot is empty, but not if you already have equipment on, such as your radiation suit. I'm glad you're returning to Subnautica. It's honestly a fantastic game. Can't wait to see you discover all the crazy shit waiting for you down in the depths. I would recommend building a habitat soon, it opens the game up in lots of unexpected ways.

1. U need to equip equipment after crafting 2. U can unequip, which returns to inventory 3. Listen to audio logs from pods 4. Scan symbol appears for scannable objects at bottom right even if u dont equip scanner

You have the radiation suit equipped, you cannot have the radiation suit head piece and the rebreather equipped at the same time. Also you do not need the beacon there as you can always turn on/off the signal for the pod at any time.

You can swap your oxygen tanks while underwater to extend your time. Tanks contain oxygen independently of each other. Also you swim faster with nothing in your hand, so you can press the numbered button for that slot a 2nd time to put away the item you have out.

You can disable the annoying map on the seaglide by right clicking when you have it out. Best setting is map off, headlight on. Love that youre playing subnautica!!

Some tips i wanna give is there are two islands on either side of the aurora one is a floating island (nothing dangerous if you stay above 20 meters) the other island is important for story progress but..( leviathan live there) the floating island has good plants for food but annoying crabs. Also another thing don't be afraid of reef backs they are your friends, there signifying no leviathans in the area

A few tips, eating a bladder fish gives you 15 o2, using the torch and map on the sea glide wastes better y faster, each biome has different outcrops with better minerals, you can out swim almost everything once you have the sea glide. Creature eggs are pointless until the late game.

Finally I've been waiting on this series to start

Judt a tip Jon. Theres a little sweetspot *just* underwater where you don’t use up oxygen but you are able to use the seaglide. It makes traveling long distances less annoying.

You may think Subnautica is a game about being lost in an alien ocean, but no, it’s a game about needing more copper.

30:40 Yes all planets have a geographical north since that's just an artificial "construct" by us humans, as a result of mapping things. The north and south poles of a planet are determined by the rotational axis of said planet, and are located where the rotational axis intersects the surface of the planet. And then some planets and one moon, also have a magnetic north pole. Earth is pretty rare in this case, since it's the only rocky planet that has a magnetic field and thus has a magnetic north and south pole. But those magnetic poles rarely are in the same location as the geographical poles. In fact the magnetic poles drift across the surface as the magnetic field changes over time. Another funny fact is that since the magnetic field lines of earths magnetic field come out of the south pole and travel north to the north pole, earths magnetic pole at the north is actually a magnetic "south" pole, and vica versa. Besides earth it's only the gas giants that have a magnetic field. Only other "rocky" body like earth is Ganymede, moon of jupiter, which is the only moon we know of that has a magnetic field. Since the magnetic field of earth also provides strong protection for life against cosmic radiation and solar radiation, it is reasonable to assume that an alien world with complex multicellular life on it will also probably have a magnetic field protecting that life.
