William Decoteau I agree, I did stop pirating when Netflix was in its hay day but now it takes too long for series to get there and some don’t at all. If there was a game pass type of thing for PC I would immediately stop pirating and pay for that.

No reason to laugh your ass off about it, DVD and Blu-ray are real and reliable ways to watch film and video. Also I highly doubt your phone has enough storage for a 720p version of a multiple hour long, intensely animated movie. Lots of people have bought the DVD and/or Blu-ray of Shrek 2 because Shrek 2 is fucking awesome and a physical disk is more reliable than multiple lines of code. Someday you're going to ditch that phone for a new phone and you'll have to download it all over again, whereas if you had the disk you would never need to download it ever again and could watch it anytime without requiring your phone to be charged.

Now, there's not that much on there because other companies keep pulling their stuff to make their own services, which will all fail (except for Disney Plus, maybe) because Netflix only succeeded because of its wide variety. You're absolutely right, competition is good for the economy, but in this one instance, competition is actually killing a system that already worked just fine. This isn't just coming from me, by the way. My Media Arts professor will tell you pretty much exactly what Scott said in this video.

I would be interested in some of the conclusions the class came to. Obviously, whenever there is an explosion of new media (like TV when cable arrived ) there is an expansion that occurs until a breaking point and then small individual networks merge to create mega companies. Isn't this the same thing only with streaming?

I just wish classes would be more open to conversation like this. Topics including streaming, tragedy, depression, things that you wouldn't expect to talk about in class. Like in my World Studies class, we got to talk about propaganda in modern day. Like Obama and Trump seen as Hitler, the class was asking questions for once.
