I commend his passion, but it's clearly performative (ha) and egocentric. If the character were a really good teacher, he would stop his shtick as soon as the kids started expressing frustration about how many teachers they've had before, asked them about it, and talked about their situation and what they really need rather than going full Dead Poet's Society on his own. Ironically, that could have forged a real connection.

No we don’t. We need teachers that will give students the benefit of the doubt, who are trained to recognize symptoms of abuse or hardship in and outside of school, who will be sympathetic and validating of mental illness, and who will allow students to be individuals and express themselves safely. There’s nothing wrong with Shakespeare as it is, or Bronte or Vonnegut - we just want to get an education and get out unscathed.

It was poorly worded but I think he met he rather have a sub teach a boring math class than the classic sub that tries to be "hip" or "cool". He didn't actually mean he wanted to learn math in that class but he rather that than what the sub was doing. They should've just left that line out completely

Honestly, the best thing about this is how the teacher apparently has 50 contingency plans for this lesson. That IS admirable. Also, I don't know what school the SNL writers staff went to, but from my general experience actually having a teacher that tries that hard is a rarity.

I have never watched an episode of SNL. But it's apparent how much effort and talent is out into this show. My favorite laughs have been the news segments with Pete Davidson and Colin Jost. I love some of the writers like John Mulaney. I may not be a did hard can but I truly admire the work ethic behind the show.
