As much as the ESPN pundits talk mostly 💩a lot of the time, they do make a fair point about England's chances in the final. So far England have played either a 4-2-1-3 or a 3-4-2-1...but in both cases have avoided losing by bringing on subs. Against Spain neither formation will work IMO. England will have to set up with a 4-5-1 and play Gordon on the left and Watkins up top to compete and hold the Spanish attack at bay.

I think this pundit panel is too harsh. England are in the final and performed really well. None of these guys will ever be happy…I think there are things about managing an international team through a tournament such as this that guys simply don’t understand or have experience of. The team Craig Burley suggested before the game is simply all the “nice to haves” of the tournament but excluded most of Englands best performers. Pundits can be too judgemental and reactionary without focusing on giving the players time to gel.

We can be negative about the England national team and Gareth Southgate yes he should’ve made some substitutions earlier in the game, but hey at the end of the day, they beat the Netherlands and bringing Cole Palmer and Ollie Watkins and both of them combined for the game winning goal, you have to give him credit for making that substitution. No matter how fit he is or how he performs, Harry Kane would stay on the pitch in every minute of every game, despite scoring a goal and is the joint top scorer of the EUROs, let’s be honest, he has looked very mediocre and for once, Southgate decided to sub him off and put Ollie Watkins on the pitch as he wanted to be more direct and having a runner and a mobile striker would cause their defense issues and England are clearly a much better team with Cole Palmer on the pitch and I’m surprised he hasn’t started a single game at this tournament as every time he comes on he makes an impact and is actually doing something. Guess what, Palmer’s inch perfect pass led to an assist for Watkins who positioned himself so well and he scored an excellent driven shot which was enough to send his team to the final. They’ve changed the formation as they’re playing 3-4-2-1, it’s the same lineup that we’ve seen from this team in almost every game regardless and when you have one of the deepest squads in international football of course you’re going to have to make subs and while once again they got away with making subs too late, I wonder how sustainable this is going to be for England and Southgate against Spain in the final because if they go down 2-0 in the first couple of minutes, all the fingers will go on him for playing the wrong players and they’ll call for him to make changes at half time, but at least he did something that actually worked for once and I gotta give him credit for that.
