I don't entirely disagree with you but there simply aren't really any other options besides a straight pole which I think would still look dumb but also probably could not be cheaply 3D printed

could maybe make it look a little like a cartoon antenna. It'll give the robot a cute vibe, which will only aid in the psychological warfare front.

Seeing those pockets on the sides, they feel like perfect catch points for spinners. Is there a reason you have them on the outside like that?

It's impossible to machine a Billet frame with pockets on the inside without requiring much much more expensive fancy 5-axis machines using special tooling

Holy moly that super minimalist self-righting solution is the kind of engineering I aspire to. Has something similar been done before by top mounted horizontals? If not that that is seriously creative. Also nice editing ;)

Thank you! Lots of overhead spinners have attempted similar things. Phantom III is probably the closest example though with less of an extremely tall thing. I'm sort of betting on rear wheels getting good grip when flipped to self right with this design. It's difficult to come up with more sophisticated solutions when your weapon shaft spins with the blade.

look up matt patts style theory of hulks pants for materials, he mentions spectra which is 15* stronger than steel, kevlar is 7

Spectra is a fabric made from woven strands of uhmw plastic. I already used uhmw on the last version of this robot for the entire chassis but it's not stiff enough

I would say you may want to look into the SCAR Antweight kits as a good baseline for the drive system.

It looks to be pocketed a ton, so it might weigh similar to the UHMW one.

It was a 3 pounder last time as well. Turns out 3/8 in thick ar500 Forks are extremely heavy

That was Mini Mulcher, a totally different 1lb bot. I still have plans for a future version of MM but this isn't it.

This chassis is quite a lot heavier than the UHMW one but SSP has a ton of weoght on defense which I don't need for this offense first robot. The front forks are like a third of a pound on SSP for example. The aluminum chassis is about 11oz, UHMW was about 6oz.

Will the overhead spinner chassis be able to be in plastic?

It will not be rigid enough to work well in plastic. The last version was plastic and didn't go well.

I thought subtraction was supposed to be a ssp kit modification only. Or is the ssp kit going to be aluminum now?

Originally it was but making a good overhead with a plastic body doesn't really work well. SSP will remain plastic but this aluminum body might become something you can still buy separately. This particular chassis is not able to become a lifter though it's purely for overhead

@@JustCuzRobotics I was wondering if the switch to aluminum was because the plastic one had too much deflection with big hits causing the blade to collide with the top plate.

That was part of it for sure, but I also needed to change the back to make sure the wheels make contact when angled upside down
