We can't get chickens during the pandemic. So, in order to grow our flock, we must breed our own. But that means we have to keep a rooster. I've tried it before without success, but this time, it is working. Watch and see how I keep my rooster quiet on our suburban homestead without using a no crow collar.

I live n Seattle, it’s crowded here. We had a stray dumped to our block and the crowing was insane. Only during the early AM hours. I wanted to shoot it or poison it. The city ended up sending animal control to capture it. I hate roosters sorry I can’t be PC.

You can sound proof a coop by insulating your walls with a type of insulation called 'Sound Screen' batts.You also need "peg boards" on the interior walls which deadens the sound.The more holes in the surface the better.Flat surfaces carry sound.

@sheldonrigsby3523 I appreciate the response. I was thinking to carve a rooster out of wood. But what worked for us last night was that I built a small house that I put the rooster in so he was quite. The issue is that there are two other roos close by that crow in the morning in our neighborhood.

Great idea, I just see an issue in the winter. I don't believe that is enough ventalation. In winter everything is going to freeze solid plus sound carries more in the cold...issues sure with a slight tweak it will be perfect.

So can your Roo see some light? Through the cracks of ventilation? So that he sounds off in side there first before letting him out ? Like detonating a bomb in one of those bomb cambers that contains the explosion?! Interesting ! Hi! It works best when they go to sleep there. The dark keeps them from waking up too early, and the walls dampen the sound if they do do. Onece they wake up for the day, it can be hard to stop them. Try having them sleep there and see if it helps.

Yikes, that is a tough one. I am sorry to hear that. Aside from perhaps mentioning it to your neighbors directly, using earplugs or contacting Animal Control are the only other answers I can think of. When we had that problem with the neighbors a few years ago, the only thing I was able to do was to wait it out. I found that after a few months, the problem solved itself somehow. I hope this helps oh, and I hope you're able to get some rest

We tried leaving our rooster in longer in the morning, but our neighbors told us they absolutely don’t want to hear it at all during the day. Do you let yours crow during the day? Not sure what to do and I don’t want to get rid of him, I love my rooster and we’re trying to get baby chicks as well so hard to get them now. :( Right now we have to keep him inside which makes me feel bad.
@Suburbanstoneage
@Suburbanstoneage Жыл бұрын
That is a tough one... I usually go by the local noise ordinance if you have one. Also, I would see what time in your neighborhood construction or other noisy maintenance activities customarily begin in the morning and on different days of the week. But if the neighbors have zero tolerance, maybe the only answer left is to build him a coop in the garage or something? That way he is in the house and no louder than if a barking dog kept in the house. I wish you luck, I feel for your situation.
