I like how in the good ending it just skips the killers whole reveal because you had to have reached the bad ending at least once to get the good end.

This has the artstyle of something you saw late one night as a kid, but then you get older and start to wonder if it was a fever dream and then discover it's some obscure/loss media that a handful of people remember.

I think the gimmick with the girl and her dog is that the girl had some visual impairment or disability and the dog way be a service dog. That would explain the weird doors as how the world may seem warped to the girl? That’s just my theory anyway, nice vid :D

I just finished watching the video and I hope this game gets more popular, it's so beautiful.

I think the girl with the dogs theme was nightmares? 1st Puzzle: I’m not positive about the meaning, but blood and guts are standard nightmare fuel. 2nd Puzzle: Being lost? Also not positive about this one, because this could fit for the 3rd and 5th puzzles too 3rd Puzzle: Being chased 4th Puzzle: Being crushed, possibly moving without control of your body too 5th Puzzle: Being watched Also, the fact that the little girl wakes up screaming afterwards kinda makes this seem obvious for me

Wait on the good end the two girls tried to pull the exit door only for it to not work but Benson kicked it in, they were really about to die because they tried to pull a push door.

The fact he got REALLY into the part where he played as the Grim Reaper(?) to the point he would stop to talk to the NPCs is honestly gold. Also HE SAID HIS SOUL IS A CHAOS EMERALD, THE MANLY LORE DEEPENS!

Melding 2D and 3D visuals is always something I've loved, and this game is shockingly beautiful. Plus that ending was just plain weird.

I think the ghost with the skull on is the son/daughter of the serial killer, and the serial killer is homeless on this train, depressed, murdering people because she's depressed of the loss of her son/daughter. The "best end" is I think the ghost of her kin stopping her from murdering these people and making her realize that this isn't the proper way to grieve, and that she needs to move on, hence her getting off the train and waving goodbye to her son/daughter. At least, that's how I interpreted it. I think the bad end and the good end is the two kids literally trying to escape the mother while the best end is the mother realizing what she is about to do is wrong.

The nerd ghost wanted to erase their browser history (maybe) that's why they are upset with the protag when they touch it. HA!

Honestly, there's be nothing more terrifying than a whole ass Homestuck convention.

This game is so COOL because despite being spooky as heck, I don‘t have this awkward feeling in my stomach I have with most horror games because the character designs and animations are really charming and fun. They give me this secure feeling somehow, even if something scary happens I can watch this without feeling anxious. does this make sense…? Like, it‘s still scary but in a very enjoyable and fun way.

First person was probably just a small town girl living in a lonely world before deciding to take the midnight train... looks like it goes just about anywhere, too!

The danger of the Midnight train is that it *does* go anywhere. 9:54 so that's where all the boxes from that one Hello Neighbor run ended up.

A visual treat from start to finish. The art in this is just fantastic, and the developer was not afraid to go weird in a lot of segments which I really appreciated. Not being able to get the good or best ending in a game can be annoying, but having you on the fast track through segments you did correctly in previous runs is a great way to mitigate that issue. While the best ending is clearly the proper conclusion to this story, I do kind of love the good ending for just being so surprisingly dark; I was not expecting the ghosts' solution to the problem, and it made for a memorable ending. Good use of time paradoxes, I loved the art throughout the game, and the puzzles were never too annoying that I think I'd get frustrated replaying any of them if I messed up.

I watched RTGame played this and thought 'Man, can't wait for Manly to play this game', and after 5 hours, here it is. I really love the art style.

What were these children doing wandering a train that late at night anyway? Scary thing is there actually have been a lot of serial killers that operate by night trains, its easy to find victims alone that way and makes them really hard to track down.

The best ending is really cute to me. There's something about the ghost of a loved one gently nudging you away from making terrible choices that just makes me uwu.

I've been thinking a lot about the first twin's area. I think that the bear is a manifestation of her feeling of resentment for her sibling whether she is aware of those feelings or not, seeing as she is also afraid of the monstrous bear. The way that she drops and leaves the bear behind is like how we see the other twin leaves her behind in the video game section. Also the mc goes through a section were the have to avoid a faceless version of themselves, like avoiding an unknown side of oneself. Finally only after recieving the letter from her sibling she can face these feelings, no longer relying on creating barriers that block the bear and impede our progress, and move on. Notably we also get a clear view of the monster bear at this point. Like wise, the videogame playing twin is obviously feeling guilty for abondoning their sibling, as they constantly replay this moment in the form of a videogame.

I love how slightly slow your walk is. Especially when chaced. That's exactly what it's like in my dreams. Sluggish fear

The "artists" section.. The start of it.. Instantly made me think of how I used to only make things in black, white and shades in between... It was a very odd quirk that I was unable to get out of till I was almost 20.. Sadly not a joke. I just could not get myself to use color.. Funny for someone who did a lot of artwork both for fun growing up.. As well as to make money... Even then I struggled for a very long time with the color part... The avatar I use here is a small cropped bit of the very first piece of artwork I did that actually had color to it. I had a bit of an obsession with drawing eyes for a long while so it was kinda fitting to crop that part. It was also the first part of the piece that I added color to. ( Oh and, no even as a kid I would not use colored pencils or crayons. If I was forced to use crayons it was always black or white. Same when forced to use the colored pencils. Funny enough I have had people try to hide things from me so I HAD to use colors but I always ended up either finding them or using stuff I stashed as backups.. XD )

I think we know what happens in the Bad Ending (you dead), but for the other two: Good End - Like Manly said, the cross-shirted girl made a paradox to save the first girl in the game. In the end, the other ghosts who were murdered by the homeless woman took their revenge before she kills two more souls. The ghosts may be at peace, and the two girls finally escaped the subway. Best End - In this ending, I think I'm starting to understand. The ghost boy wearing the skull mask is the homeless woman's son. I guess the woman went crazy after losing her son from something (possibly starvation). And now, whoever steps into her train...well, you know the rest. So, before she murders the victims, the ghost boy interrupted her by witnessing what she was about to do. With him watching, the woman can't do it. And so, she moves on to the next tram. The ghost boy follows, watching her about to kill someone and repeat, until they finally reached their "home". The boy sat next to his mother, revealing his face. She probably apologized to her son before heading out. Right after passing her supposed victims, the woman took a one, last look at her son. He waved goodbye at his mother, before parting away. I think the boy just wanted his mother to move on, away from their past and the train. Oh, the cross-shirted girl walking past the empty levels of train? I think she is like an "angel", helping out the ghost issues in the train this whole time. However, with no victims of the woman's killing rampage, the girl never saw the other ghosts, just the mother's son on each end. Simply put: a mother blaming the world of her son's death will probably go on a killing spree. I mean, since the world wasn't very kind to them, why would the mother be kind to the world back?

Elanor's sister dissapeared, and she doesn't know why; maybe she dissapeared on the train? maybe she was murdered? either way, elanor is grief stricken, and takes her anger out in a horrendous way, she probably just starts out as a killer, camping on a train, and then at some point she either dies and becomes a vengeful spirit, or is just supernaturally altered because of killing on the train, making it a sort of nexus. In the bad ending, everyone died, including your protagonist. In the good ending, through some sort of supernatural paradox, our protag and the person they were looking for lives, and escape because the other spirits band together and kill elanor. In the best ending? using this same supernatural nexus paradox whatever power, elanor's sister comes back from the dead, traveling through time to each instance elanor kills, to dissuade them, and ultimately get them to move on; this could be a literal spirital moving on, or a metaphorical moving on, depending on if you think elanor is dead or not, but the whole idea is that elanor never discovers how her sister dies, but must move on regardless, and is helped by the spirit of said sister. This is just my interpretation of course, i'd love to hear what everyone else says! i really loved this game, from the story to the clashing artstyle, it was a real treat

Really love the aesthetic of this game. The artstyle is really pretty and unique in my opinion.

I took a break to go do some work after watching about 13:50 and come back to "things are a bit fishy around here" in a cart full of fish and I unironically lost it for how much it caught me off guard.

Letting you skip segments you already solved on subsequent playthroughs is kinda genius. What an enjoyable game to watch, such an intriguing story told with absolutely no dialogue or words whatsoever (I don't count the wanted posters as such).

not only is it a cool art style, a fun mix of 2D and 3D, it also has fun sounds, elements of horror and comedy, and my FAVORITE SPOILERS FOR BEST ENDING you can save (almost :'| ) everyone!!! this was a very fun game to watch, thank you for playing it Manly and thank you to the creators for putting it into the world!

I wasn't sure if the chalk tracing of the body was insinuating that the ghosts were killed on the train or that the sister was. Given it's always present. But for sure I imagine the serial killings had something to do with the elanore wanting some kind of release from the pain of her sister going missing and finally seeing her ghost showed her that she was dead and gone, it just not worth it to take it out on others.

I feel like the siblings(?) were already living in the train. That's why there were missing posters for both of them, not just Jacklyn.

I feel like Jacklyn and the Protagonist are linked somehow, as if Jacklyn(and the player) guides the Protagonist into the loop in order to help the ghosts and also reach out to Eleanor on the last loop. I think either the protagonist was looking for their friend because they went missing or they were both supposed to meet each other on the same train which explains why the both share the same train car. Another reason why I think they're connected is because when the protagonist first encounters Eleanor Eleanor gives them a very weird/concerned look. Another thing I noticed is that Kiki and Colin's roles both switch in the loop because Colin was supposed to be the one to run away but in the loop Kiki runs away and Colin goes after her to give het back the bear.

Tbh I think that, while Eleanor (the killer) isn't a spirit, they're at least capable of some sort of strange power? I mainly say this because of the fact that she can kill Lizzbeth (the protagonist post-opening) very easily. And most of the time they don't seem to have a visible weapon in hand, not to mention that every time Eleanor laughs theres a ghostly aura that the other ghosts have. But my final reasoning for why Eleanor isn't necessarily a ghost is because of her color palette. Most of the ghosts have usually colorful palettes (benny being green, jessica being blue, the only exepction being the painter), meanwhile the living people have a darker more subdued palette. As for why I think Eleanor is killing all these people on the Subway, I believe it's because of the train itself. We only see Eleanor around the train (exepct for the Best Ending, in which she finally leaves and moves on), and considering how she has a full on camp within the train, I believe that Eleanor is somewhat trapped there. Unable to truely leave the station. Considering the missing persons posters for her and her sibling, it's very possible that something horrible happened to them on the train. Something that killed the sibling and left Eleanor trapped in the subway. Now, one might argue that the subway only became so strange because of all the ghosts, and while I agree that it became more strange, I believe that it was pretty anomalous before hand (the seemingly unrelated monsters such as the giant red thing, and the grinning fat man Lizz passes early on). Eleanor might have possibly been trapped there for *years*, being driven mad by this strange train. Most likely Eleanor started to kill people because of an influence from the train (the aura and red eyes when she laughs), and the only way to truely free her from the fate she has in the Good Ending is for the sibling to use the train's anomalous state to essentially go back in time and save the others from dying, helping Eleanor move on. However, where will Eleanor go now that she's out?

I'm a bit late on this and there is a few things I want to praise and theorize about but I just want to focus on the Big Bad at the end. Spoilers Below This is all just my interpretation of the game so don't take my comment at face value. I think not knowing what happened to Eleanor's sister is the point because she might have started living in the train hoping to get a clue of Jacklyn but when she found none it drove her crazy to the point of being a serial killer. Eleanor leaving the train might be a form of closure and acceptance of never having the answers to her sister's disappearance and/or murder.

The part with the sleeper and their dog, I got the impression that all the worlds you visited were actually their dreams and you're trying to navigate for a way out. To 'wake up' I guess, or at least make doggo go "WOOF WAKE UP!". Dreams are always confusing with no logic so makes sense for those segments. Overall, this is a surreal but cool game, beautiful and chaotic in its style. :D Btw, I got a bit weirded out when I find out the artist is named Victoria. :Y I'm an artist and with same name. Welp, I ain't going on trains at all.
