Facing inward, questioning how your identity was molded throughout childhood. Those external influences; your parents, your siblings, and your peers...their unhealed wounds were most likely, unintentionally projected upon you as a child, creating your belief system about the world around you and about yourself. As you peel away the false beliefs, biases and insecurities you will discover hidden all along, your greatest strengths, growth, and your purpose.

When you start working on yourself watch out for the nay Sayers. Think about how static that is to stand in the way of people who want to do well, and be a light in the dark. It's just that your light is casting a shadow on them, it's easier to point a finger than to walk in the light too. Pride keeps people where they are stuck, and it's intimidating to see others press forward. They thought they had all the answers. These same people who tell you your goals are dumb have made knocking others down their goal. They missed their dream and they can't stand to see you get yours.

I find it is most terrifying to choose and step into our most idealistic and best self. This takes the most work and sacrifice. It is nice to see a content creator talk about this subject using their own experience. Thank you! I've seen others use and twist Jung's content on shadow work to create fear and illusion. If you fail to know your shadow self you are very susceptible to the trap of influence outside your own experience. Bernaysian psychology can be dangerous and Knowing yourself allows you to know the pitfalls of man and the shadow self triggering influence of others which can provoke you to coagulate with the irrational madness of the mindless beast mob. R.D. Laing's work involving subconscious game theory was also helpful in understanding myself in order to understand others better as well as myself, driving compassion and understanding. Those that haven't found it yet check out Adam Curtis's three part series called "The Trap" you won't regret it.

I am in conflict with my values often because of my success. I can’t get into what I do, but my biggest fear is becoming a monster. A lot of lives are in my hands as a result of my success and if I ever decide to stop caring, there are no consequences. I think this may be good advice first those who need to make the first few jumps to success but so many of us that are successful have walked a path to the precipice of darkness. I can’t let myself validate the abyss.

What is the underlying trait of the destroyer / psychopath? That is something you must integrate. Imo it may be logic/rationality. Your shadow may want you to be purely objective without any morals like a robot. I would suggest playing chess or some other competitive activity that allows you express this trait or act of destroying someone. It may be a problem with your self worth. In that case you can integrate the shadow by finding activities that allow you to be selfish.

Here's the problem I have with Carl Jung's shadow theory and how facing your shadow can involve some type of revolutionary growth or self-acceptance or unification. What if your shadow was that you really want to murder people? What if your shadow was that you want to be homosexual even though it may not be acceptable or even good for you? What if your shadow was that you have a lust for power and you really want to go get that power? What if your shadow were things that were based around desires driven by genetics that are not working correctly, which would make you an immoral human being? What about then? So how is this ideal of facing your shadow or integrating your shadow inherently good when the shadow, the subconscious, could be harboring things that are not good for the world that you should not embrace?

There’s a difference between allowing it to surface and actually acting out on it. It’s fine to surface, acknowledge, and let go! It must flow through us instead of pushing it back down. That’s what must be done so that it no longer rules our lives. This doesn’t mean act out on it! Please don’t. But to acknowledge it for healing is the idea.
@arafatshabazz6066
@arafatshabazz6066 3 ай бұрын
@@katielittle4173 I understand your point about acknowledging certain thoughts instead of suppressing them. However, I believe that in recognizing these thoughts, we inadvertently give them legitimacy, which can be appropriate in some contexts. Yet, this approach has inherent risks. Without detailed explanation, it might lead people to accept and internalize beliefs or behaviors that are detrimental. This could result in actions that are not beneficial, or beliefs about themselves that are inaccurate. More so, diverging from socially accepted norms can significantly impact a person’s psyche. By acknowledging these as aspects of a 'shadowed self' or hidden desires, we risk creating a dangerous situation where individuals might stray into harmful territory. This concept, while intriguing, seems perilous and insufficiently substantiated for safe practice.

@post-humangod2575 11 күн бұрын
The shadow is made up of suppressed traits not actions or desires. If your shadow shows you immoral dreams and fantasies, you don't take it literally. It is symbolic. The question is why do you have such an immoral dream or fantasy? What is the supressed trait that surfaces when you hypothetically act on these desires? Murdering someone hints towards violence and aggression. Find some competitive activity that allows you to be agressive. That is how you integrate that supressed trait of agression. Do not kill the light for the dark, find harmony between them.

This is something trans people used to teach within indigenous cultures as berdache shamans and healers, and in the current time they embody that journey openly for all to see. So we could witness what it takes to embrace our shadow, because if it does not destroy the norms or beliefs, it is still a victim of the sociert afraid to come out. Our shadow hides our highest potential to rewire the nature of reality and bring great destruction to the world in order to re-build it from the ground up. Our shadow is a beast that is needed because it contains the fire necessary for the passion to lead one's life.

The crucial question is how to do this while working a demanding job? Our brains can't process dedication to two different deep things at the same time. It's why we have sayings like 'If you put your feet in two boats you'll fall in deep water', possibly because they would go in different directions. I struggle with this cuz just when I need a little more time to figure something out about myself, I am pulled away to attend to something I only care about because it brings in money to pay the rent.

@@XTRABIG I find it difficult to focus when I have to keep switching between tasks. My problem is the impending work-related task acts like the elephant in the room and when I try to do one thing and focus on it, I completely forget that the world exists let alone the other task/work-stuff. I am so on edge about forgetting my work that in the end I can't do anything. It's more of my ability to 100% completely focus on a thing gets in my way and since I live alone I don't have anyone (apart from alarms) to nudge/poke/remind me that other things exist. It is easy for me to get stuck in doing a thing in full focus and deep detail like the protagonist of Tolkien's Leaf by Niggle. Any ideas? This is nothing other than a synopsis of Jungian beliefs and concepts. It provides not a single practical step for embarking on the journey of bringing the shadow into the light. In that sense, it is dangerous. There are hundreds of reasons for anxiety and depression and they are much more complex than simply denying a part of the self. Consider the abused and ir emtionally neglected child. Consider the young sex trafficked woman and young men. Consider the 11 year old bride. Consider the female child subjected to genital mutilation. The list of other thing to consider when reflecting on the incorporation of the shadow into the whole personality is ling and deeply complex. The journey advised in this deep sounding, but essentially superficial video, is not one to be embarked upon lightly or alone. There is a need for a wise, fully integrated guide or at least companion. Beginning in my early 30's I read all of Jung in an attempt to make sense of my life. What helped me the most was a young therapist who used many different approaches, among them Fritz Perls' theory of Gestalt therapy. Perls believes we are are born whole, but that in order to survive--literally in early infancy when we must rely on our caretakers to remain alive--we cut off parts of our personalities that either threaten or displease those caretakers. He goes on to posit that the choices we make, no matter how illogical or even self-destructive they may appear on the surface, have a logic of their own: to get back to the whole entity we were at birth. The choices are, in a sense, clues to the parts we have sacrificed. The process involves analysing dreams and, most helpful of all, having conversations with the various parts of yourself in which you actually change seats to become the other part. Be careful what you take away from this video. You can find yourself lost in deep darkness, you can lose your way and cause damage to your psyche. Pay attention. The difficulties and fears referred to in this video can be overwhelming and terrifying. Jung never meant for this journey to be taken alone. Lastly, the "Ubermensch" posited by Nietzsche was what fueled the Nazis and their horrifying campaign of genocide. We see the same occurring in front of our eyes today in the war betwee6 Israel and Gaza; Russia and Ukraine. In both cases the leaders and those who support those leaders, there is a lack of self awareness, a failure to confront the shadow, but only to act on it. The same can be seen in the United States with trump's ambition to be the ruling dictator of an autocracy. Be careful.

Maybe the video is interesting, but when you start with a quotation taken without proper research, that is inaccurate, it's hard to watch the whole video. Jung never said: “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate”. Jung did say in Aion: "The psychological rule says that when an inner situation is not made conscious, it happens outside, as fate. That is to say, when the individual remains undivided and does not become conscious of his inner opposite, the world must perforce act out the conflict and be torn into opposing halves."

I just don’t like the reference to dark and light which means good and bad. It just is. To me I don’t like negative and positive, good and bad - judgement. They are all real and just are there, all mixed up together one reflects the other.

The darkness is not meant to be killed. It is meant to be redeemed and brought back to light just like how it was before developing the dark side. Darkness is a part of you and it is symbolic. The dreams and fantasies are not meant to be taken literally. You have to find the underlying trait behind these dreams.

So, when someone appears arrogant i am supposed to gaslight myself and start believing that i am arrogant instead because that hints at my own shadow ? Sorry, but i‘m not gonna swallow that. I can acknowledge that i have the potential for arrogance but i‘m not gonna defend an attacker for attacking me… i can choose to acknowledge their behavior, not take it personal and not write that person off, but still go seperate ways.
@kubon101

No, it suggests that perhaps you are bothered by this person's arrogance because it represents a quality that you wish you had in yourself but have been repressing. Perhaps you wish you stood up for yourself more, or that you had that person's outward confidence.

You ever become who you really are, then turn back from your real self to your old self? Knowing that one day you may need the new self, you keep him on a shelf? I’m a combat vet…. I’m a father of 3 and a husband…. I’m not the guy I used to be, but he’s certainly in standby in the event he’s needed. I carry a pen because it’s mightier than the sword…. But I always carry a sword….. sometimes diplomacy fails, and when it does, I’m your huckleberry.

Does anyone likes arragance in others? Can we not dislike it simply because it is unhealthy behaviour? Should we like it when a person yells at us? If we dont like it does it mean I also have an aspect that loves to yell at people or can we just not like it because we respect ourselves and therefor refuse to be yelled at? Same goes for littering. I strongly dislike it when others violate nature by littering. Is that a shadow or is that my love for nature in action?

I’m new at the idea of shadow work. However the way I think of it is how strongly we react to arrogance, injustice or cruelty. If our response seems a little over the top then that may be our shadow. And we need to delve into why such a strong reaction

Think of it this way. Arrogance hints towards a greater sense of self relative to the people around you. So if you hate someone being arrogant maybe you don't have a sense of self that allows you to value yourself over others. In this case you should integrate the shadow not by killing who you are but by finding an activity or a mindset that allows you to be selfish and value yourself.
@zion367
@zion367 11 күн бұрын
@@post-humangod2575 I think this is not true. Arrongance, just like insecurity is a shadow behaviour. Two opposite sides of the same coin. Their healthy middle path is confidence. That is the true integration of the shadow. The alchemised state of it. I do understand what you are saying that if there is no inferiority present in someone then an arrogant person will not be able to trigger a strong dislike. Then its probably just a small annoyance, however they may choose to set some boundaries around what they let the arrogant person get away with in terms to how they allow them to communicate to them.
@zion367
@zion367 11 күн бұрын
@@post-humangod2575 as is selfcare the alchemised version of selfishness. One does not integrate a shadow by becoming the shadow, but by alchemising it into its proper form. The middle path...
