Great video thank you. When you say about 6 months will you leave the cuttings in the sterilite for that entire 6 months, or did you transplant them at some point during that process?

Another way of taking the cuttings is when the crepe myrtle tree is dormant in winter , I do fairly well with cuttings , when spring comes the cuttings wake up and start growing , I do that with grapes vines and pomegranates as well , don’t have to worry about the heat factor taking them in the warmer months .

Great video, thanks! I live in southern Oregon and visited a winery that had the most interesting rainbow-colored bark tree with beautiful white blooms that were intensely fragrant. When I asked what the tree was I was informed it was a Crape Myrtle. I could not believe it because I did not know Crape Myrtles were fragrant. I took out my phone and took a Google picture and it also identified the tree as Crape Myrtle. I am now obsessed. The winery did not know when the tree was purchased or what variety it was because it was a very old tree planted before they owned the property. Have you ever come across a fragrant Crape Myrtle with rainbow bark (it looked similar to Eucalyptus tree bark).

I just started doing cuttings last year. Using a system very similar to yours except I fill tub with 2.5 inch peat moss cups from Amazon (100 pcs $!2) and then put 1 inch water into tub. Almost 100% success rate and much easier to harvest and transplant without disturbing tender roots.. I keep covered containers out of direct sun for 6 weeks and then remove covers and put into direct sun for a month before transplanting into 1 gal pots... . Since they can be rooted in pain water, I suspect they do better with roots immersed but am going to try your system with a batch. I live in an area where everyone has 4 acres or more so the pant gifts make for friendly neighbors and a great looking neighborhood.

nice video! do you change the water in the bottom container ever, if so how often? how long do you leave the transplants in the container? how do you transplant them (just pull them out by hand)? what time of year is best to transplant them into the ground?

Check it every 2 weeks as water may begin to grow algae….if so then change. Thanks for your question.

I really would like for you to give more detail on how long your cuttings stay in the soil and at what point do you remove them and plant them? Do you plant them directly into the ground? Do you put them in gallon pots until they are a certain height, could you please be a little bit more specific on the ending of this process? I have a crêpe myrtle that has some sprouts coming up the bottom and I really want to do something with them to make more crêpe myrtles, but I’m not exactly sure how.

Love the single trunk crepe myrtles in your yard! Is there ever a time when you don't have suckers sprouting up around them? If so, what's your secret cause I have several in my yard and I have removed dozens of them over the years because of the work trying to keep the suckers at bay...

Yes they all produce suckers. I either break them by hand or hit them with a weed eater when they are still tender.

would have been useful to have seen the results. How do you justify the "100% success" with no evidence?
