This is another one of the fabulous girl groups from the early 60's. Phil Spector produced this group. He later married the lead singer Ronnie. They had some great hits including "Be My Baby", "Baby, I Love You", "(The Best Part of) Breakin' Up" & "Walking In The Rain". Sadly we just lost Ronnie but she left a great legacy of her music.

Veronica "Ronnie" Bennett (August 10, 1943 - January 12, 2022) was known professionally as Ronnie Spector. She was the lead singer of the girl group the Ronettes (aka, Ronnie & the Ronettes) with her sister, Estelle Bennett, and their cousin, Nedra Talley. They were eventually signed to Phil Spector's Philles label and he produced the majority of their recordings. They had a string of hits in the 1960s. In 1980, she released her debut solo album and her career revived when she was featured on Eddie Money's song "Take Me Home Tonight" in 1986 (you can easily hear Ronnie singing "Be my little baby" in that song). Some of the Ronettes other big hits include: "Baby, I Love You"; "(The Best Part of) Breakin' Up"; "Do I Love You?"; "Walking in the Rain"; "I Can Hear Music"; "You Came, You Saw, You Conquered".

I believe this was 1963. probably the best song on the radio. Beatles were still unknown & unheard, but this was clearly as good or better than what they had that year.

What a Class Act these Ladies were loved listening to them when I was growing up. When I was in high school early 1960's we had NOON Dances Everyday and when Ronnie came up on the record player all the girls would line dance to this tune brings back some very good memories

The late Ronnie Spector returmed there when she sang Take Me Home Tonight with the late Eddie Money 💰, an ex New York City cop 👮‍♂️. The song inspired Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys. Got the thrilling pleasure of seeing Ronnie Specter perform live in 1975 or 76 at one of the Cleveland World Series of Rock concerts. Most of us were there for Todd Rundgren's Utopia or the heavier rock sounds of Nazareth and Aerosmith. But Aerosmith cancelled at the last minute and the legendary WMMS d.j., Kid Leo, introduced us to Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes in their place, who brought Ronnie because of a summer hit song. It was a total surprise that launched me (15 yrs old) and another, older guy behind me to our feet when they announced her. My mom had been a big fan of the "girl groups" like the Ronettes, the Crystals, the Shangri-las, so I was pretty much raised on those 45s spinning on the home record player. She was just stupendous and won the hearts of a lot of head-banging rockers.

The Ronettes was a unique song that dates back to the Brill Building Sound. Don Kirshner and Al Nevin had a group of different writers, competing against one another, and as a result alot of the same hits that started coming out of that building, all started sounding alike which was how the Brill Building Sound was born, back in the early 60s, before the recording industry moved out to the west coast.

These ladies never wore wigs. "Be My Baby" was released in August 1963. In 1961, The Ronettes, the New York City girl group made up of Veronica (Ronnie) Bennett, her sister Estelle Bennett, and their cousin Nedra Talley. By 1963, the trio caught the attention of producer Phil Spector, and moved to his Philles Records, expanding their sound with his famous “Wall of Sound” production technique. “Be My Baby” was recorded at Gold Star Studios in Hollywood, California on July 5, 1963 and released in August, 1963. They released only one studio album and broke up in 1967. The Bennetts' mother was a Black American and their father was Irish-American. Their cousin, NedraTalley, is Black American and Puerto Rican. In America during the time they were popular, they were a "Negro group". There was no social media so most white people didn't realize this. The group never denied their Black heritage, in fact they graced the cover of Ebony Magazine, the most important monthly magazine for Black people throughout the USA.

Ronnie Spector is the lead singer and she just passed away last week. Her husband (Phil Specter) created the song and the "Wall of Sound" that influenced everyone. They were the predecessors for all the great pop/soul female groups that would be all over the radio in the early 60's. Unfortunately for many of these groups/bands of the early 60's the end would be soon near as a little band in Liverpool was about to explode on the scene and the world would never be the same!

RIP Ronnie Spector. She died a few weeks ago. Zendaya is going to star as her in a film biopic. Apparently Ronnie hand picked her for the role before she died. Zendaya paid tribute to her after she died. The song was in Dirty Dancing (amongst many other films). Her death really touched me. To think the Ronettes were formed in the 1950s and Ronnie was still performing until quite recently. Also, Amy Winehouse idolised her and emulated her style in her music. There are several videos of Ronnie Spector singing Amy's 'Back to Black' as a tribute to Amy after she died. You guys should react to that.

Yes the GREAT incompatible Ronnie Spector, whom we just lost recently. A very super unique voice. Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys said Ronnie and this song were his favorites. Eddie Money wrote a song in the 1980s featuring Ronnie Take Me Home Tonight. He has a few verses where he says ,just like Ronnie sang, Be My Little Baby!

Hal Blaine, the great session drummer, inadvertently produced one of the most iconic drum beats at the beginning of this song when his stick got caught in something. Producer Phil Spector initially wanted a Doo Wop sound, but loved how Blaine’s beat sounded so it stayed. It’s more pronounced on the studio version.

Phil Spector was a very influential music producer in the 1960's and created the "Wall of Sound" style of instrumentation and tempo which so many of the girl groups sang to in the 60's

I read somewhere that Phil Spector was enthralled with Ronnie's voice because she sounded so much like Frankie Lymon of "Why Do Fools Fall in Love" fame.

I read the comments below and cannot say it any better. The Ronnets, my personal favorite girl group of all time. My Fav song "Walking in the rain" . I would add "Babe" by Styx and the "Wedding Song" by Patti LaBelle and the Bluebirds. My Three GOAT songs. I started watching react videos to some of my favorites. Frist time hearing someone can remain a lifetime. I enjoy the reaction of first listen to say Stairway to Heaven -LZ, Holding out for a Hero-Bonnie Tyler and Hello in There - John Prine. Since the Ronnets and the Righteous Brothers both worked on Spector records, they had the wall of sound.

Veronica "Ronnie" Greenfield-Spector. She was the "Bad Girl" of music back in her day. Her husband Phil produced some of the Righteous Bros and The Beatles' long and winding road. He was a really sketchy guy. 2 murder trials. Bodies showing up at his house. Check him out. He produced the Ramones as well. He was so so very talented and yet at the same time he was a real piece of work.

I saw them in 1963 for the first time and once a few years later. Yes, they were charming onstage. But for us guys they were also exciting with their beehive hairdo's, tight sweaters and Hispanic looks. In truth neither Ronnie or her sister were Hispanic, but we didn't care. I was fortunate enough to see most of the great girl groups of that time including The Supremes, Martha and The Vandellas, The Marvelettes, The Shirelles, Patti LaBelle and The Bluebells, The Shangri-La's, and The Crystals. We miss you Ronnie.

Married to Phil Spector, and his genius for the sound of the "wall". Our lady's didn't have to act like "you know what's" when performing.. We were lucky and blessed.. This might seem like Old School, here's a lesson for you.. When a song and performer stands the test of time. --- they are not old school, they are time consuming..

Phil Spector was also teaching a young Brian Wilson how to produce records at the time this song came out. Brian was allowed to copy the chords & rhythm to make his own Beach Boys song called "Don't Worry Baby", which was also a chart topper.
