You are the first person I have found that actually showed me how to make a quilt from beginning to end with out talking to the animals and a lot of extra chat . I like just show me what you got, and let’s do it! I have been in a depression for 6 years and I think you have shown me where to get started back up out of this feel sorry for me state. I have sewn clothes and quilts all my days since the ninth grade, I am 74 years old and I can’t imagine where the time went. My sweetheart bought me a new machine last Christmas and I made a baby dress and that’s it! With God’s help and your help I am going to the basement and start going through my 55 years of scarps. I have enough to make a thousand quilts and here I have just been setting, Forgive Me all of you quilting ladies and gentlemen God bless y’all

It is the getting started again that is my challenge now days....the day can go by so fast and I seldom feel that I have done anything at all. God bless you,. This is a great quilt to start again with.

I also started to quilt when I became a widow at 40. Before that, I couldn’t sew a button on to save my life! But the joy of first learning to quilt, and then launching myself into making quilts when my grandchildren came along saved my sanity. I now have a stash big enough to fill a quilting shop, and spend far too much money on fabric but I am as happy as I can be. My favourite part of the process is to choose my pattern and then cut the fabric, I love cutting 🥰

Hi Beth, well I just couldn't wait to make enough scraps, so I cut a quarter yard off a bunch of fabrics and odered about 10 fat quarter bundles from Amazon, a week after their arrival, I'm knee deep in 1" strips and have 80, 5" pieced squares and 6, 9" blocks. It's so easy and I just can't get anything else done. I haven't sewn for over 2 years, and this was just the ticket to get started again. Thank you so much, I'm back in the groove.

I took a class from a lovely quilter who grew up in Montana during the Depression and who is no longer with us. The pattern is similar to this idea and we used florals with white fabric strips. It was another pattern, but for her class she called it "In the Garden." It's a wonderful way to use up all those extra florals. Somewhere I read that when you buy cotton quilting fabric, buy some inches extra, depending on what you want to do with it. Cut off a 5" strip of each one and you'll have ready-made pieces to use for squares, etc. Currently, I have a small tub of them to use.

I love this and I love just as much that you said it’s okay that seams don’t match up perfectly. I truly love that. If there was a plaque that said something of the sort I’d hang it on the wall and look at it every day. I find that for myself “perfection” is a wretched thing that keeps me from doing things I love to do. Like sewing. I need to literally write this out and keep it handy as a reminder so I can just do what I love and not let perfection be my task master!

I just found this video and love everything about it. Thank you so much for sharing. I feel of utterly useless, but I love to sew. My failing eyesight slows me down. Yesterday I bought some batting and backing fabric which I have never done before. found it at such a good price. JoAnn's online. I haven't made a quilt since I was 17 (52 yrs ago) and at that I didn't buy batting. I took apart an old comforter and made the top and back and then knotted it. My youngest son today loves that quilt and has it on his bed. This pattern looks so complicated but your clear instructions shows me that I can do it too. Thank you so much again! Happy thoughts! :)

Thank you for this lovely quilt block, Beth! It inspired me to jump right into action and begin cutting out 5 inch squares from the vintage florals in my stash. I am going to try an alternative in the piecing: mixing up the small triangle corner fabrics to make it even scrappier! I've tossed the little corner pieces in a paper bag and am picking them out at random to sew to the larger pieces, no two will match. I also decided that the thin insert slices of fabric in this new arrangement will be the same white fabric repeated throughout, joining all the pieces. I hope mine looks even halfway as lovely as your example when it's completed...

I retired 3 years ago. I was an RN for 40 years and needed a hobby. I returned to sewing from high school days. I just finished a sewing program to refresh my skills. I had even forgotten how to put the bobbin in correctly. The final project was a quilt. That was 2 weeks ago . for my comfort, i chose the 2 colors lap quilt. I did not grow up with quilts and thought why do people make them.i did not know what i was going to with the quilt i made. I hated it. This is the quilt that has ignited my passion to make quilts. I have hated floral patterns, now I love them. The quilt is so cheerful and fun to look at all the different prints. Up to a few weeks ago, i was a person that needed everything to be matching. Now i love variety. I am such a newbie i have no scraps LOL. i am going to the fabric store and getting small amounts of fabric for the strips. ;-} thank you so much for all the detail of making the quilt top. And also saying it is Ok to not have it perfect. That alone has decreased my stress. I now have a purpose and will be joining Project Linus. I would call it spring time. Once again thank you so much.

I like this pattern. It is very doable. I would also use the same color for the strip. Maybe black to stand out. Thanks. Also, Beth, you seem very nice.

Love this ❤️ I would name it "Trellis Garden Windows". It definitely reminds me of the Wisteria lattice we had in New Orleans, and now the Clematis Vine in Wisconsin.
