Brilliant review! In Part 1, the investigation officer Krishnaswamy (Nedumudi Venu) with his booming voice from Nasser is the real hero. When he meets Senpathi (Kamal) it was like Robert DeNero meeting Al Pacino - two grown up serious people from two different sides with mutual respect. It was well written with depth. Indian thatha rarely spoke and when he does speak, its razor sharp. Here in part 2, he explains what the villain guy did wrong, how it affected, now what varmam he is going to apply on him, the effects of it (which is clownish as well) for 15 mins on each murder and breaks the 4th wall looking for applause as in Bigg Boss. Pathetic!

Out of the clutter of reviews online who are just spitting venom on this movie, I'm glad to see at least one sensible individual who addressed the exact pain points with such clarity ... The execution of the scenes involving the killing of characters by Senapathy's character was so gimmicky that it trivialises the purpose of those killings .. Also, the character of Senapathy is someone who kills out of compulsion, however in this movie he seems to sadistically enjoy them, and it snaps you out of the movie and makes you cringe.. I'm not sure why a legend like Kamal haasan would agree to such gimmicks, as there are so many directors with great stories ready to work with him.. Even if he trusts Shankar, he should have asked him to rework those scenes and write them with more imagination .. It pains me immensely to see that a Visionary and Cinematic Genius like Kamal Haasan is saddled with stories that he doesn't deserve.. I just wish that great storytellers out there get access to Kamal Haasan Sir, and he does work that upholds the legacy he has created since the last 63 yrs..

Sudhir, the quality of the movie doesn't merit a review of your class. Wow! you brought out so coherently , the angst of every 90s kid, who has Senapathy etched in their mind. The other major down point in the movie which you didn't touch upon was the music.. and the only places the music felt a little organic were those where Ani has used ARR's bits from Indian. Maybe Shankar could have made an AI listen to Indian once and then compose for this one. It would have done a much better job !

So far the best critique and review of this movie. Being a 90’s kid, Indian movie has a huge impact on many of us and the generation at large. It really made us think and introspect and state of corruption in the nation and triggered a sense of patriotism within us. The situation of corruption hasn’t changed much in the last 30 years. So Indian 2 was a great opportunity to trigger this emotion in the generation today. But I don’t know what happened, this opportunity was completed lost and actually ruined by this movie and the lackluster characterization of Senapathy. I don’t know if even Shankar or Kamal realize this. I don’t if the current political environment in Tamil Nadu and the influence they had on the making of this movie, played a part in it. This sequel has only put even the original Senapathy in bad light. It’s a pity.

Even the scene that slightly worked for you did absolutely not work at all for me. While that scene is playing out , i was forced to contemplate with questioning the reasons that could justify it and i couldnt it find anything convincing rather it was so illogical and far fetched and over dramatised like a tv serial that completely took me out of that emotion and made it look like a joke. With respect to that portion : *First of all , One could find it hard to swallow that Sidarth was completely oblivious to the fact his dad was corrupt right until the moment in life indian thatha has advised him to expose his family. especially when they have such a good bonding and close knit , clearly there would have been hint since from childhood that his dad's income and his financial backing ratio would have been way off . *when the dad was getting arrested it appears that mom did not have a single iota of conscience that all those years that she enjoyed the life was out of corrupt money , even after his son makes a very long justification , she doesnt seem to care about it at all . She only seems to worry that her husband got arrested and then she decided to take her life. *The way everyone made sure his son doesnt see her mom face during final rituals was down right joke, and that scene played out right from sun tv mega serial . There is no way anyone could stand in a way even by law , this is utterly unbelievable some random distant relatives were acting as bouncers to thrown him away from his own from from seeing his mom. The total scene was felt very forced and placed only for the purpose of creating a reason to send indian back , even for that reason it failed miserably. I mean what was even shankar thinking and how did it passed through all those who were in the creative department to okay this !!! The whole nation was caught on to this misconstrued idea and blamed indian for it and started chasing him every corner to the point of publicly pelting him with stones ??? I mean cmon , TO Me Shankar's prime has gone after Sivaji .

Weirdly came to this review for condolences. Shankar(despite his flaws ) is one of the most successful Tamil director , Kamal (assumingly) never chose a script without any real challenges, has decided to make THIS movie. On any level they couldn't have thought this film is good, if they did I am sad that they had such a cognitive decline . If they thought it's a miserable filem , and still pushed this bad film , I am sad that we trusted them.

As a hardcore fan of Kamal from my childhood, got upset watching this film. Makeup is became a mask literally a mask for Kamal’s face. No emotional moments works except Siddharth mother suicide and related scenes… Political awareness w.r.t to social justice is lacking in all Shankar’s movie, even I prepared for it while going to the movie. Still his vague vision towards a society surprises me, how come a man who done many political genre films not having basics of socio economic development. Shankar doesn’t learned or understand anything from writer Sujatha it seems. Dialogues are very childish effortless writing. Shankar is not only apolitical his views and thoughts on genders shows his ignorance… I think Indian 3 also will have the same issues mentioned above… Waiting of Thug Life 😒

I heard it from some of my friends once that , SHANKAR's contribution is very minimal for any of his films. It's all about assistant directors who give the idea and all nuances.. Now it's proven one more time. He is nothing without SUJATHA and good ADs .... He became outdated a way before, since his Robo film.

Has it been ever felt like the world that Shankar creates or that brings on the screen become unrelatable? The world that we see in movies like Mudalvan, Indian etc felt like it's from our world in comparison to super saturated high coloured world of Indian 2, I, 2.0, etc. That world itself is alien to us.

I was thinking .. These young generation, believing he probably died. Tried to recreate him using his techniques. (Like Pyscho killer films, how some other pyscho will try and emulate that) Then suddenly their cover is taken and at the brink of the moment really Indian Thatha comes and saves them and takes responsibility and guides them like Ramana Vijayakanth rather than taking into his own hands.

None of shankars movie have aged well. If you rewatch most of his comedy, romantic scenes are complete cringe , his actors tend to ham, over act and hyper-react !! Even indian1 urmila scenes were so unnecessary and damn cringe

I had written a couple of days ago that there is a dearth of good clever film reviews on Tamil and also other Indian languages . With this late review , l think l may have to re view my comments! In the 60's I used to refer to reviews in magazines like Kumudham, Vikadan and Kalki. But now, I feel they have kind of democratised the process and let the partisan diehard fans coming our of the cinema halls on the first week of the release of the.film to deliver the final.verdict !

With Kamal and Shankar's experience, they should have known what to include in the movie. There are too many repetitive scenes, and no substantial development for almost all characters, including Senapathy. The interval, climax, and Senapathy's introduction were lackluster. Making it a two-part movie just to increase revenue was a bad choice, as trimming at least 60 minutes wouldn't make a difference. They need to learn not to take the audience for granted.

I mean Shankar is for sure zoned out, he talks abt govt office corruption. Ok fine it still exists. But viewers here are used to people like Dhruv rathee. Who exposes big fishes. Guy who complains about his uncle who runs highway hotel scenes reminded me of Gopi sudhagar’s bus pavangal. People enjoy their content. Viewers did not demand for great visuals or anything. Just a green mat. They just wanted a content where every youth can relate to. Same goes here. No one gives damn abt the bad guy’s golden adobe. (I know Shankar has that stupid grandeur fetish or something) But they care about proper human emotions. One tweet comeback Indian.. everyone does it. It really took more than a day to realise that Indian 2 is a complete letdown for a movie which once considered the best work of SHANKAR sir & KAMAL sir which earned accolades and attained a cult status. Maybe an excitement watching a "SHANKAR" sir's movie on a big screen after a long gap since 2.0 might have been the reason for this late realisation. It started off well unraveling the plot of "Comeback INDIAN" with justified leads, but then it all started to crumble and fell like a pack of cards that we rarely witness in a SHANKAR sir's movie with the most talented KAMAL sir too involved when he is currently at a commercial peak. There were too many lead and supporting cast who did their best to shoulder the plot which wasn't enough to save the already outdated plot. The main plot of "COMEBACK INDIAN" later got down to a point "GO-BACK INDIAN" when a series of events unfolded itself with a weak and tiresome screenplay which kind of struck very odd to be honest. Though there were a few high moments which got elevated only because of AR Rahman sir's original INDIAN BGM's and not the original composer Anirudh. This is by far his weakest and least impact work of his career unfortunately. The climax was chosen to be open ending with a lead for INDIAN 3 making it feel mixed emotions about this classic and leaving us with no choice. Verdict : The curse of sequel 2.0 is still a myth to be broken even for AANDAVAR.
