Hi, nice work, man! Just one point, LD 1000 grid can sound much smoother if you wash the knife carefully after 180 grid. lol

Any opinion on the debado 4k vs naniwa pro 3k (which is closer to 4k anyway)? I'm considering the MD for the greater surface area but of course cutting speed and feedback are a factor too. TY!

Hey Man, nice video :) Love all the stones Suehiro is putting out. How do the Debado LDs compare to the Ouka/Rika) and the Naniwa Pro/ Shapton Pro in terms of cutting speed, finish etc? Kind regards

Greetings! Tx for water stone reviews. What are the hardest and most durable coarse Debados? Anything better for less $? How do u rate King Deluxe 300 splasher?

Nice to see another video being posted. I don't miss any of yours. But I am still waiting for your views on the Naniwa Gouken Fuji #8000. Some sharpeners claim it polishes better than the Snow white. Would be interesting to know your views/impressions. Thanks.

I find myself switching back and fourth between snow white 8k and Fuji 8k for a couple of my Solingen Dovo straight razors. I really couldn't pick one over the other. As far as 8k stones go I feel they are much better than the competition. It's worth pointing out that both cut much faster than other 8k stones like kitayama and Suehiro while leaving a finer polish as well. Naniwa just has it figured out when it comes to ceramic whetstones. Suehiro though is doing an excellent job with not only their cerax but newer Gokumo and Debado stones

I got a naniwa arata 10k, I really like it. I don't have snow white or fuji to compare but, 10x better than kitayama 8k and I need to compare closer with morihei karasu 9k

I'm looking at getting some higher quality whetstones to replace the cheap, chinese made 400/1000 and 3000/8000 combination stones I'm using now. I definitely want some harder stones after dealing with the very, very soft chinese ones. I'm currently thinking about an Atoma 140 diamond plate (For flattening stones and initial edge development,) a 1000 Shapton Pro, and then a Chosera 3000 for a finish. I chose the Shapton 1000 over the Chosera 800 mostly because of price. Does this seem like a reasonable progression? Any stones maybe better in some ways than what I've chosen? Thank you! Your videos have helped me immensely in improving my technique.

First, thanks for the comment. You have chosen a great progression. The chosera 800 is a beast, but In your case I think its a wise decition to put the money into the 3k. If you like the shapton, consider the 320 as well in the long run. That's my go-to stone for setting the bevel. Although the suehiro LD 180 is now giving it some stiff competition 😁

@@TaAikah -- I've also got the Shapton 320 for setting the bevel, but I use a Shapton Glass 1000 for my medium. Still struggling to pick a polishing stone. Do I go with another Kuromaku? Another Shapton Glass? If the glass, do I go for the high alloy or the high carbon? I'm actually leaning towards the Cerax Rika 5000, but do I really want a soaker?
@AnarchAngel1
@AnarchAngel1 Жыл бұрын
@@twatmunro The Rika is an excellent stone...I would think of it more as a 3-3.5k stone though. It produces a hazy finish but it cuts very well and it can handle a wide variety of steels. It will cut R2/SG2 and other CPM steels quite well; faster than the Shapton 5k for sure. That's not to say I wouldn't choose the Shaptons though, they produce excellent edges on almost any steel you'll come across. The 8k Pro/Ha No Kuromaku produces insane edges. I like to follow it with a bare horse hide strop and it produces stupid sharp edges. Like easily double digit BESS readings sharp

Can you tell me how you removed the bases from the cerax stones? I have a Cerax 5000 with a base of which I want to get rid off. But I'm hesitant to use force on it.
@hello.itsme.5635
@hello.itsme.5635 2 жыл бұрын
Maybe this is useful for somebody: Suehiro uses adhesive which softens up nicely in the oven. Heat up the stone slowly to 100 C and let it in there for 1h. After that the base will come off with little bit of force.

@@lofotenknifeworks2278 How would you rate the cutting speed compared to something like the Shapton Pro 120? if you have it. Especially for stainless clad knives.

@@hello.itsme.5635 , the shapton pro 120 is a stone i am trying to like, but that haven't really gotten under my skin yet. It performs great, but I don't like the feedback. Fir regular sharpening I tend to chose the shapton 320 before the 120. If we are comparing the debado 180 with the shapton 120, I would go with the debado every time :)

@@lofotenknifeworks2278 Thank you! I've been thinking about those two stones over the last couple of days. I'm in the middle of thinning my Goko 210 Gyoto. It's way too think behind the edge and the stainless cladding is a pain in the ass. The SG220 is too slow. My resistance towards spending the money for the debado is getting waeker by the minute...
