Man I like this mans attitude, he said if he won the championship he would still keep his job with the city. Smart, work in P R, work as mayor who the fuck cares... I admire mr. Bonds.

Crazy 2 years after Moore's fight he was stopped by Roberto Duran. Davey only had like 12 fights.
@kufujitsu2 жыл бұрын
I remember Moore's management team got criticized for rushing a raw, inexperienced fighter into a title fight - Moore seemed to prove everybody wrong when he won the title & made a few defenses - including an absolute war against Ayub Kalule, but it all caught up with him against Duran - Moore was a good offensive fighter but never learned defense.

Ray was not just as good coming to a guy vs them coming to him. We saw that in his Hearns fight when Hearns started boxing and moving. Makes you wonder how Ray would have done vs Mayweather.
@kufujitsu2 жыл бұрын
You might be right. Floyd had a longer reach than Leonard & could match his speed.... Leonard was the much harder puncher at welterweight though - most of Floyd's KOs were at lower weight classes. If the fight was 12 rounds maybe Floyd could have won a decision. But Floyd going15 rounds against a natural welterweight with the strength, power & skills like Leonard? I'm not so sure about that...
@acetofresh12 жыл бұрын
I don’t know how this makes any sense. Ray came forward and changed his style against Hearns and knocked him out. Also Mayweather has a SMALLER reach than SRL. Not sure who typed that.
@kufujitsu2 жыл бұрын
@@acetofresh1 According to Google, Mayweather had a reach of 183 cm to Leonard's 179 cm. Leonard was taller though - 5'9", to Mayweather's 5'8". Ray definitely beats Floyd over 15 - but a 12 rounder might be closer...

Ray Leonard toyed with Bonds . He was standing right in front of him and Bonds could not get anything of worth going. Ray had a tendency to be the aggressor because he had a very reliable chin in his prime. He also had a lot of the pitbull in him. Simply put Ray could do EVERYTHING. He could box and move anywhere he wanted in the ring because he had the BEST legs in the business along with Salvador Sanchez. He could box beautifully, set traps, throw five to six punch combinations where any punch in that Salvo could hurt you and stop you. His stamina was off the charts and when he had a man hurt, he was no different than a great white shark or mafia hitman. Ray CLOSED The show. Leonard had a beautiful jab when he opted to use it and classic right and a KILLER of a left hook. Mayweather would not be able to keep a big welterweight like Leonard off of him. Mayweather had zero power at 147 and his legs were not anywhere close to the athletic abilities of Leonards. Ray stood 5"10 with a 74 inch reach. I met him in person severalyears ago and he was solid with surprisingly big hands. Mayweather at 5"7 with a 72 inch reach ( 2inches less than Leonards)147lbs was merely a one punch pot shot fighter with a good defense that shut out the men he fought at 147. But when you consider who these men were, it isn't such a big deal. He stayed away from black fighters at 147 who were fast, in their PRIMES, could box,punch with authority and move laterally with a high IQ. The bulk of his opponents were B level flat footed, low IQ, slow with mediocre defense, Latino fighters. He drew the color line with black fighters at 147. The only ones he fought at 147 was a washed up Mosely and an even worse Andre Berto. No Thurman, Porter, Bradley, KellBrook etc....were on the menu. Leonard by Contrast fought them ALL especially fighters with the styles I mentioned above. He finds a way to win and closes out the show when its crunch time. The guys Mayweather fought Leonard would eat for breakfast with zero effort. Ray fought the best of his day when they were in their PRIMES not 6 years removed with several losses and beatings on their ledger. And that is the biggest reason why Leonard would prevail. Better competition and more heart along with more firepower on a bigger frame.

I like Larry Bonds as the underdog. Would have been cool to see him become the champion. On the other hands, Sugar ray has such good head movement, and the way closes in a gets those hook shots is so technical. I like both of them.

Now I gotta say it, you know of all the announcers Larry Merchant is by far the worst, he constantly makes jokes about the fighters, Floyd was gonna knock Larry out cold, for his doggie an judgemental statements about fighters for a long time now, in this fight he said repeatedly that RAY can’t punch hard, but knocked Larry down twice took very little won the fight by stoppage so someone in that ring was hitting Larry really, really hard so that’s discrediting a fighter, Larry needs to watch Leonard vs Green an then say Sugar don’t hit hard, like I said Larry Merchant says nasty things about the boxers, he knows nothing about boxing he was a prototype for the network him and Lampley, that’s why they always had someone with them who knew about boxing, like a boxer( George, Bobby,Roy, Lenox, Marvin, even Sugar, would later join them to explain what the punches were an boxing strategy, because they didn’t know about boxing!!!

I think Marvin was looking forward to a big money fight with Tony Ayala and Ayala goes and rapes an old woman and ruined his life and career. That would have been a good fight. Much like his fight with Roldan.
