Little known movie trivia: The Big Lebowski is a satirical remake of Harper. Shot for shot, in many cases. What makes it escape being a direct remake, I guess, is that Harper is replaced by The Dude. So many scenes BEGIN with the shot setup exactly like Harper, but change and devolve as the scene goes on because now we're seeing that scene how The Dude reacts to it. It may have just been some sort of Ethan Coen mental exercise, but it's genius.
