This is a complete introduction and explanation of all the different insulins currently available. Part 1 explores long acting, or basal insulins. Part 2 (separate video) explores fast-acting, or bolus insulins. In this video, we learn all about NPH, Lantus, Levemir, Basaglar, Toujeo, and Tresiba. I explain how each insulin works and we discuss their place in diabetes management.

I am a type 1 since 1976. I have had life experience with beef and pork, humlin and humalog insulins. Lots of not fun. Thank you for your knowlege beyond my own

Was on Lantus, had to split dose, now on Levemir, just 1 dose/day. Maybe because I am exercising and mostly eating low carb. Will ask for Tresiba during next appointment.

do you use bolus insulins or only Lantus/Levemir...as my son covers all needs only with single daily shoot of Lantus (only 2ml so far D1T)

Thanks for your feedback. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I really don't know anything about the Nigerian health system. I would start with a conversation with your physician about what insulin therapy would be best for you based on your own personal needs and what is available in your local area..

What do think of Semglee? I was recently prescribed this one. Thank you in advance.

Semglee was approved after I made this video, but it’s pretty much the same as Basaglar and Lantus.

Very informative. If I had to make a suggestion, it would be to speak just a tad slower. I had to stop video and go back to make sure of a couple things like Hypo and Hyper among other portions. Overall I'll give you a grade of 95%. Thanks.

I just started Lantus 2 weeks ago. I can say my numbers are coming down well, but I’m still having issues around mealtimes. Does it take a while for Lantus to kick in? Does it really last for 24 hours?
@sugarhighchannel
@sugarhighchannel 3 жыл бұрын
Lantus is supposed to last 24 hours but really only makes it to around 18-20 hours. It won’t me able to cover for meals; it’s meant to be a background insulin.

@@sugarhighchannel my son (D1T) started using only lantus and it covers everything - we started with 10ml but we had to reduce it to only 2ml a day, mealtime spike is covered as well with Lantus - spike goes up to 170 but then goes down fast, I am suspecting in some remission as what happens now does not have logic

It was flash paper. It burns really fast and leaves no ash behind. I ordered it from an online magician shop for that demonstration. Did you stay to the end of the video for the bloopers? 😉

Love these videos. Does using insulin usually cause weight gain?
@sugarhighchannel
@sugarhighchannel 3 жыл бұрын
Nancy O'connell Yup. Since insulin allows sugar to get into fat cells, it can allow weight gain.

You have excellent videos - love your explanations, However, that music in the background makes it hard to concentrate on what you’re saying. I know it’s pretty soft, but it’s still distracting.

I have a question. Why people with T2D given medicines rather than insulin? Why take medicines and get side effects while insulin can work the best.
@Una2Cold
@Una2Cold Жыл бұрын
I imagine because one you jump on the insulin train it’s a slippery slope. Your body starts to get more and more accustomed to not having to produce its own insulin (even if it wasn’t much before, it’s still producing some) and then will eventually stop completely. Where as type 2’s who can alter their lifestyle and eating habits might never have to jump on that train if they are serious about their condition
