Continuous glucose monitors (CGMs)are quickly becoming the new standard for day to day measurement of blood glucose when managing diabetes. The G6 and the G7 are the most frequently used models within the Dexcom brand of CGMs. In this video, PA David discusses 10 of the biggest upgrades implemented in the G7 and how these differences translate into the diabetes patient experience. Also discussed are three features that have not changed with the most recent upgrade.

I love the G7. I have been on a pump for about 25y. This new tech is amazing, easy to use and has a 20+/- in accuracy. I was just in the hospital and found this to be true. On the regular is was 10 or below what the hospital meter read. I was thrilled to say the least! Warm up times seem to take less that 5 minutes for me, and being a brittle diabetic ,this is invaluable!! The sleeker design is wonderful and I have yet to have one be torn off by clothing. There really isnt any difference in where I wear it. Im using the back of the arm right now but will test other areas.

Hey, I’m a newly diagnosed type 1. I have watched a bunch of your videos and I found it a great resource to becoming knowledge about how to manage diabetes and the tech that helps. Can you make a video geared towards the family and friends of T1d? Like a video meant to educate them of what they may have to deal with, how to react, essential life saving things, etc. All these videos are great for diabetics because there is so much information but for family and friends a really boiled down version explaining and hitting the major points I feel is really necessary as a newly dx’d t1d. Thanks and I love your content!

Hi, thanks for your kind words and thanks for a GREAT video idea. I’ve had some ideas written down for a while on “Things families of people with diabetes should know” but I think you’re right that a video specifically geared toward families of Type 1s would be smart; their struggles are different and specific. I’ll definitely put that into the project lineup. In the meantime, I’d recommend a channel called @Diabe_tech. I don’t know the creator personally, but he makes very good content from the perspective of someone with Type 1. The @TCOYDtv channel is also very good and doesn’t get enough attention, in my opinion. They are two endocrinologists in San Diego and both are living with Type 1. Good luck in your journey and welcome to the community.

Thanks for the video and all the rest. It should also be noted that to use this with a pump requires the use of the number in white print and underlined for Tandem hopefully they will change this to make less confusing. Thanks for a great video and all the information you have provided.

Glad you had it helpful. You’re right that the new insulin pump - compatible sensors have that slightly different appearance. Thankfully, Dexcom isn’t really making the older ones anymore and as pharmacies start to run out of the old stock, only the newer, compatible ones will be distributed. So it should be a very temporary issue.

Thank you! Your video was extremely helpful…I had a partial pancreatectomy almost 12 years ago, for a very large tumor. My A1C was WNL for years but now, my glucose has been very difficult to manage. My doctor has recommended CGM…after checking with insurance, they cover dexcom G7 & the CGM accucheck CGM made by roche. There is little info on Roche CGM. Think I’m going to go with dexcom G7 as I suspect I will need an insulin pump in the future…thanks again

With the G6 I wear it both on my abdomen and upper arm and now with the G7 I wear it both on the abdomen and upper arm plus in the last two months I have been using the chest also. I have found that the chest, in my case, has shown to be very accurate. Great video I do agree with all you said during your video. I would have also mentioned that both the G6 and G7 may be inaccurate the first 12 to 24 hours if in doubt do a Finger stick.

I have used the G6 and am currently using G7- I have found that several locations work accurately for me when it comes to rotation sites:upper chest where there is soft tissue right above the breast, abdomen- any of the anatomical 4 quadrants, thighs-rectus femoris, and either side laterally and either side of low back just above gluteal area ( to the side so you don’t come into contact with sciatic area)- very versatile and easy to apply!

Sure. If you’re using a G6, you can connect it through the G6 app. If you have a G7, connect using the G7 app. But I don’t believe you’d be able to wear a G6 and a G7 simultaneously and connect them to the same phone.

I hear people complain about the receiver. I cannot overstate the use of this. Anytime there’s an account problem with the Dexcom app or online account, you can use the receiver wired and upload it to the endocrinologist. It’s also much lighter and more convenient than the iPhone.

So i have the question of , while waiting for the new sensory to start up how does my pump and app stay connected to the new one ?
@dwightl5863
@dwightl5863 Ай бұрын
After inserting the sensor you pair the sensor (four digit number on applicator) to the app and the pump. Pump uses the basal rate during the half hour warm-up. After that half hour the sensor sends glucose readings to the app and pump.

I use the G6 myself on my thigh, and it works really well. But where did you get the idea that it's 15mm thick? I only measure it to be 8mm. The reason I haven't switched to the G7 is because it's fairly common knowledge that it has a VERY poor range, with a decidedly poorly designed antenna. Don't you hear about this in conversations with your patients?

I don't even bother trying to calibrate in the first 24 hours. Also I can't even count how many sensors died prematurely. HOWEVER , when it works, it is GREAT!
