As is with most animals tbf. Cats even if you drive safely over them can lift up they're head and still instantly kill themselves (same thing happends a lot with wild rabbits). Best you can do is spot it and anticipate, but yea when theyre just doing this even in a normal car not a lot of people will stand a chance to do something about it.

Some birds, especially pheasants will deliberately try to attack cars in self-defense or to try and "scare them away" I've hit quite a few birds at this point, they can be sitting completely, still on the opposite side of the road, until the very latest point that it will still have enough time to hit your rear tires

Funny thing. I've seen deer jump into stationary cars. Like you have zero chance of hitting a deer but yet a deer still comes along and go "You are still going to hit a deer wether your moving or not" and then procees to jump into car

When you commit to it and when your mind starts doing yes-no-yes-no you can achieve it against your intentions. Humans maybe better at it than animals but even we can end up doing the same in panic situation. Somehow when hitting the target is desired situation you end up failing most times but when hitting the target is last thing you want, that becomes likely. Probability of failure seems to have certain gravity. Of course this is also ignoring all uneventful deer crossings that are not recorded plus the fact that humans crossing can wave or hold hand and signal and humans driving can respond to the familiar gesture but animals can't communicate this way (or even think such communication is possible)

@@Tea-oc3gh he got his head ran over and what you see that you think is him running away is actually him rolling multiple times down the track from the momentum and speed that the car hit the deer, it was instant death, the tire literally ran the head over and flattened it like a pancake and from what it looks like, it also severed the head because there is some type of peice about the same size as a head a little ways away from where the body is rolling down the track

As a truck driver, I learned never to swerve. If you're going to get hit, you're going to get hit. It may seem nonsensical to some but imagine swerving to avoid a deer or a person and you end up taking out a car with a whole family inside of it instead.

Completely understandable. Anyone who has spent enough time in deer country knows that deer are primarily motivated by boredom. The life of a deer doesn't involve much more than eating some greenery, walking around a bush, making little deer, and that's about it. Deer seek adventure by darting in front of cars at the last possible second as a means of excitement - to break up the routine and boredom.

I have this phenomenon with ducks and pigeons. They see me and I see them. We are like 50 meters apart from each other. After 30 meters they decide to step on the road and chill there. Then I have to break and wait like an entire millennium until they decide to step back from the road. Because if I want to drive slowly, they have the tendency to follow the front of my tyres. Sometimes they crawl around under my car so I can't see them. That's pretty annoying...
