This is still the best JRPG there is, imo. A little update: I made this comment an extremely long time ago an no longer hold the same opinion. Shining the Holy Ark is what I now consider to be the best JRPG, but I still like Suikoden 2 a lot. Thank you, Fernando, for making me aware of the remasters! That's exciting news!

I think it's great, but Trails in the Sky blows Suikoden out of the water imo.

What I liked about Suikoden 2 was that your faction was a clear inderdog. Almost everything lost. In 3 and 4 they're more like participants in a war.

Yeah I think that's the uniqueness of suikoden 2, other suikoden basically have you took over the already available faction and grow them further, but in Suikoden 2, you have to build it from the scratch and you are so close from getting defeated if Apple fails to convince Shu, if Riou fell in the first battle against Solon Jhee units, or if the city state army weren't inspired by his bravery.

there's a patch to fix all missing tracks on emulator PAL version, I think it is fixed in PSP version

It plays in all the battles after the Muse escape. I know, because it plays on mine. I heard that this was supposed to be the 2nd battle theme, and it is another battle theme that is bugged out. Something less dark is supposed to play during those earlier battles which are basically tutorials for the player.

@@Lupostehgreat Correct. There are in fact, three War Battle themes, with this track being the only one that NTSC players got to hear, due to poor mastering of the CD music tracks. These issues were corrected in the PAL release (among many other things) and the PSP re-release of Suikoden 2.

You all are missing OP's point. This track is in the game but it's not on the soundtrack. You have to buy the soundtrack of the first Suikogaiden in order to have this track legally.

Since most of the battles are scripted, I try to take out as many Highlander armies as possible, especially their leaders like Luca or Yuber.

Collectivist Asia vs Upperclass Europe. That's what Suikoden II's story seems to be imply. Suikoden II has this Eastern collectivism sort of feel to it, compared to Final Fantasy Tactics' "individualism" feel. I never beat Suikoden II, but I won't deny it has some style.

Now that you mention it... I first played this when I was living at home in the US. Now, in Sweden, this theme comes up. Would explain why it's not on the official OST.

Incorrect, this track does play in the US version. It's the other two tactical battle themes that don't play, so you get a silent battle whenever one of those is supposed to be there.
