Here it is - Yard Tour of our Mango Trees 2019. All of our trees were planted as small 3 gallon trees (like the Sugar Loaf near the end of the video). We don't sell budwood, but we do sell some grafted trees (local pickup in Sarasota, FL by appointment only)
Sulcata Grove is our 2 acre, backyard food forest. We grow over 60 varieties of bananas along with many fruit trees. Our videos are family friendly.

Great video! Out of the 7 mangoes I have in the backyard, my wife’s favorite is the Mahachanok. It’s a beautiful mango, but it tastes ok to me, and has a really strong aroma that she says she can’t smell. My favorite is the Carrie. Lemon Zest is finally fruiting for me, so hopefully I’ll taste it before the raccoons and opossums. My pineapple Pleasure finally fruited a lot this year, but unfortunately every single fruit got some black fungus and are shriveling up. :( I might top work it next year. Will you be doing any banana grove videos? :)

Hi Craig, I am growing a mango I have a question about, I brought a mango fruit from the store & planted the seed in summer 2017, now it's spring here & has started flowering for the first time, I looked at all the google images & diagrams of a mango flower/ovary & noticed all had a single ovary/to-be-fruit in the flower, I wanted to know if it's common for a mango flower to have 2 ovaries in the 1 flower like my seedling grown mango does?

I live in OC California. many years ago I participated in "test" where I grew three varieties from Florida to see how they will do in my area. One of the trees survived and I have recorded its name ' Princes Pride" but I can not find any record of this verity. Do you have any knowledge what it may be ? The tree is small about 6Ft tall and maybe 4-5 Ft wide. Branches are very brittle. There are very few mangoes that actually mature to be eaten. The fruit has a very distinct "elephant trunk" structure on its surface. and it is a large fruit . Also do you sell grafted plants to California ?

So, imaginary scenario, you live in South Georgia and you want to try to grow Mangoes in your microclimate. You have a Julie in the greenhouse that is a monster but you believe the humidity in the greenhouse causes the fruit and blooms to drop, so you decide that growing Mangoes outdoors in the microclimate of your South West Facing concrete wall, lined with giant Loquat and Jelly Palm trees, is the thing to do. What Mangoes would you choose ? On the edge of zone 8b/9a but has frost protection.
@SulcataGrove
@SulcataGrove 3 жыл бұрын
The Domestead Julie is supposed to need great airflow from what I have heard. Pickering doesn’t seem to have disease issues for us, and being a smaller tree, you could possibly build a cold protection frame for it or put it in the greenhouse.

@SulcataGrove
@SulcataGrove 4 жыл бұрын
The best mangos don’t ship well, and aren’t available commercially. Tropical Acres Farm ships good Mangos in the US along with Mango Men of Homestead. It’s a great way to try some of these newer Florida mangos. We haven’t mastered the art of picking at the right time to ship them safely. We pick all of ours ripe, so I think they would be too ripe if we shipped them.

Great video. Curious -- unless I missed you stating this as one of your varieties -- have you planted a variety called "Kent"? I'll eventually be moving down to the Sarasota area and plan to plant a couple mango trees.

Greetings! I thoroughly enjoyed your videos, especially on mangos. I have a small yard in Los Angeles area, and only have room for a semi-dwarf or dwarf mango tree. I am looking for a sweet mango variety that is fiberless, has good flavor, disease resistance, and smaller footprint. If it has a nice mango aroma, that would be a bonus! Originally I am thinking of getting a Nam Doc Mai #4 grafted (semi-dwarf), but a friend suggests either a Pina Colada, CAC or Coconut Cream. What would you recommend? Thanks in advance!
@SulcataGrove

Pickering would be a nice choice (if they do well in CA). Cac and Coconut cream aren’t dwarf/semi dwarf. Glenn may be a good option as well if you are willing to prune it each year.
