City Called Home Ft. AWrt, Shaé, Cari [Prod by. MikeMusiq]
Lyrics:
Suli Breaks:
Sometimes life smells like the summer
but tastes like the winter
Some days I wake early, just to listen to the sunrise.
sumtimes the mornings sound like an instrument out of tune
no matter how hard I try I can't seem to play it right
they say you should put happiness at the top of my playlist
but life is constantly on shuffle
with no options to rewind,
even when the feedback hurts your ears.
my favourite place in the world is a city called home
where sometimes I feel trapped in the cages of other people's opinions
I just wanna grow old without ever having to grow up.
is that too much to ask for?
but Hakuna Mata doesn't seem to apply when the rent's due
the best things in life are free
but someone tell Baloo that the bare necessities cost money
We were just poor kids with rich dreams
dreams so expensive that our own parents couldn't afford to believe in them
making us feel like they didn't believe is us.
if you abort a dream, does that make you a murderer?
I mean it was never a living dream anyway right, just a collection of ideas that were yet to form in consciousness right?
We think,I'm too young to support this dream
What if it took more than one of us to come up with this dream,
How can you really expect me do it all by myself?
funny, how that sounds so simliar to what she said.
Can't regret the moments that make you
even if they are the same moments that broke you.
sometimes I wake just to listen to the sunrise
sometimes the sound is so loud it makes me happy to be alive
it sounds like a gospel choir singing the last hymn just before the Nigerian pastor wraps up the service that has already been running 3 hours over on a Sunday
but reality must be an atheist
coz news articles about bombs, and dead children on the other side of the world
replaced red riding hood, and goldilocks as bed time stories.
hearing government's breaking into other people's countries to steal porridge
wolves disguised our grandma's clothing
I say, what big mouths they have
they say all the better to mislead you with.
Do politicians sleep on pillows stitched together from the skin of other people's dead children
while I wear trainers sewn together by some poor boy desperation
and my wife wears hair is ripped from some innocent girls scalp.
Who am I to point fingers,
without noticing the other 4 pointing back at me.
So I give my boy the latest Harry Potter novel and a key of weed
coz his daughter needs to learn to read, plus she needs to eat.
I still miss the first girl I had a crush on
scrolling through her Instagram post by post watching her life turn out into everything she said it wouldn't
we dnt get to play life,
life hums a melody and all we get to do is listen
all most get to do is sing along
hoping we can write a few lyrics here and they're
hoping we can stay in tune
until our song ends
AWrt:
What's the point.
Living isn't really living we are merely just getting by. Killing time like say death isn't promised in the end.
What's the point.
What is life. What is family. What is friends.
Ok family I get. But friends, friendship.
Something that could turn to nothing in a sec.
We are all just delaying the inevitable.
Pursuing happiness.
Battling life's test.
Though we all pass i guess. I mean
We all die. We still laugh I guess
we still cry.
Because i got mandem that are blocked off in blocks cuz!
Surrounded by bricks so they made a product of their environment
where we live their aint no signing in no signing off
We’d try our luck and grind till our time is up
finding love was unheard of- murders
every other week.
Mothers weak sisters crying.
They’ll drop to their knees
because they’ll never hear their brother speak again
And again, another bleeds. Pouring out.
Because man was poor and out of pees
So he’d take from another's mouth.
Take from another mouth to eat. Well.
Thats how it is living on the other side of green. Hell.
Live by the gun probably die from the same thing.
Thats what she said to me.
I was only 16 when my boy died.
Said live by the gun probably die from the same thing.
Said live by the gun probably die from the gun. But mum.
21 deep in depression I’ve got a question. If this is a mid life crisis
does that mean I’m going to die young.
I don’t know whats wrong.
All i know is not much is right.
Thinking myself into this hole i don’t know, its like,
This thing they call like it gets a lot sometimes.
Im not going to commit suicide.
Im black. We don’t do that. But it does hang in my mind.

Man Suli I don't think I could ever thank you so much for what you have really done, you open eyes to the real so you can make them come to realization . "So I give my boy enough money to buy the latest Harry Potter novel an a half of weed , because his daughter needs to learn to read but she also needs to eat ." I've been down the worse roads that no one could ever imagine, you straightened me out to the right path when I first ever stumbled across Love Letter to an Angel and Why I hate school but love education. And I've never looked back "Because if a man really wishes to fulfill his dreams reality can never get in the way ." I want you to continue to do this and make it all over the world an boards ! ⚡️💯

"I'm not going to commit suicide. I'm black we don't do that. But it does hang in my mind." This is absolutely beautiful and sad and emotional and a lot of emotions that I can't explain. But I do know this is one of my favorite pieces by you. You're amazing keep doing what your doing.

I'm not sure if you're ever going to read this, but thank you Suli. I ran across one of your spoken word pieces in high school, and you literally changed my life; enlightened me. I am a poet myself, and ever since I heard that first poem by you (why I hate school but love education), and more of your pieces, my poetry drastically changed. Poetry is my life, and you changed the way I write, so you changed my life. You're really a super hero Suli. You were right in that Ted talk, you are a super hero. I'm trying to reach new heights with my poetry, although it is unbelievably hard. I'm trying to reach new heights, and you've inspired me, given me strength and encouraged me a lot. Your poems have gotten me through some of the worst situations in my life. Thank you Suli, and I hope to meet you someday, or at least touch others with my poetry just as you do with yours. Thank you.

Hey man, it's great to hear that other people feel the same impact from Suli's poetry. I'm glad to meet another poet too man. Maybe we can share and read each other's work? I post my poetry online at @Sircharlesthepoet on facebook, @sircharlesthepoet on instagram, and I blog my poems at sircharlesthepoet.wordpress.com . You can check out my work there. If you publicly share your work, maybe you can tell me where so I can check them out too? Thanks brother! And it's always fantastic to hear from another poet :) cheers~
