That one did appear excited because it immediately ran towards the human with its wings spread out as if to take flight but its face looked as normal as any other duck or goose. True story time. I raised a mallard duck from birth. The mother had left the egg because it couldn't hatch. I slept for 2 weeks with it in my armpit. It hatched. I raised it till it was time to release. I own a pond. I release it in the land and it finds a flock. It goes with the flock. It was my pet for a few years. Around 2 years after I had released it I never seen it again. I started to figure it had been eaten. One day I was sitting down at my pond. He had brought his whole flock back to the pond. He noticed me from across the pond and flew skimming the water like some happy child running to his parent after school. He sat beside me honking and squawking. I cried my eyes out cause it had remembered me after all these years. His name was Kotori which was japanese for small bird I believe. He was anything but small. They shit everywhere to the point I had to raise him with a diaper. Lol one of the most awesome moments.

I used to have a rooster I named Carl. Carl was very friendly, and in fact I've managed to teach him to come towards me if I whistle. He would always jump out of the chicken area, followed by one hen I decided to call Bonnie cos those two were partners in crime. Once Carl aged a little he became much more mature and would rarely jump over the fence. He was a really good rooster, taking great care of the hen with finding little snacks for them and calling them in to eat and making sure no hen stayed out for the night. We couldn't keep him, but in the end I ensured that instead of becoming soup he will move to my grandfather who at this point barely even had hens to speak of because they all ran off to the neighbors. After Carl's arrival over half of the lost hens came back in the first week. I occasionally go there, and I always make sure to feed him some dog food from hand (his favourite).

I sincerely believe that animals recognize love in a person. They are pure and innocent and do not feel hatred. I have tried this a few times... There have been times when I've been walking down the street and a bird will be feeding on the grass.. It will see me and start to run away.. But the moment I start to project love and the feeling of "you don't need to be afraid.." it will stop dead in its tracks and stand there looking at me as if me projecting love and peace towards it instantly reduced its fear of me.
@Crawver6 ай бұрын
It's a bit more complex than that. Certain animals certainly are capable of feeling emotions far too many people assume only humans are capable of. And many have a level of emotional intelligence that means they can interpret intentions and have some reading of body language in the same way we can for certain animals. But they are, just in the same vein, not pure and innocent. Emotions are not monopolized by humans, and it goes both ways. Animals are more than capable of feeling hatred, being petty, and being vindictive. Especially with birds. The easiest example to point to for this is crows and ravens. We already know they are more than capable of recognising individual humans, as well as having some form of grief, or at least the ability to recognise one of their own species has died and attempt to understand the cause. It can be seen when crows hold funerals. And there have been cases where flocks of crows will hound and attack specific humans for years, if not decades after they believe they have slighted one of them. This has lead to cases where humans who tried to help a crow that ended up dying, or coming across a recently dead crow and began to move the body, being mistaken as the crows killer, and be attacked by the local crow population for years. Animals have far more complex and interesting internal worlds than most people realize. While in terms of complex problem solving, tool use and our ability to use language/convey complex and abstract ideas we are the most advanced on the planet, we're becoming more and more aware of just how advanced certain other species are as well. But it also is worth not infantilizing them as well.

we made friends with a goose, he always recognized us even over a year later.... he was so attached, he tried to get in the car with us when we left . i was scared of him at first he was sooo big,, and kept pecking but my husband just grabbed him at the beginning and made friends with him.... he kept persistently coming around even though i didn't want him but i learned that he just wanted hugs... he stopped pecking when he realized that it wasn't a thing humans liked, (geese like it for grooming) and would just come stand nearby waiting to be hugged and petted. he couldn't get enough cuddles. i have rarely seen an animal outside of cats and dogs so willing to just throw themselves at people. i thought it was only cats that understand what a sucker i am for them, most random cats in the street seem to know immediately what i am, and just throw themselves at my feet for petting. if i pass a strange cat without petting, it will just blink at me like what ?

I think it was in a book called "Ring of Bright Water" that I read 50 years ago about a guy in Scotland and an rescued otter, that he calls a bunch of geese out of the air. He lived on a wild patch of west Scottish coastline and geese used to flock there in summer and fly south in winter. One year the weather was so stormy that the younger geese could not fly and they got stuck there. He built them a shelter and looked after them through the winter and as the weather warmed up they joined their normal flock again. Some time after that he was sailing along the coast and pulled up on a small island where some people had motored and were having a picnic. As they were talking he saw a flock of geese coming over the water and he called to them. It turned out they were 'his' geese and they landed and walked around him calling to him. He says in the book something along the lines of, 'those picnic people must have thought they'd come across some local wizard who can call birds out of the air.'
