Yes, Captain Sully is a hero, but credit should be equally distributed to the co-pilot who had just as much to do with the safe landing as Sully. Without the co-pilot, he may not have been able to successfully make the landing he did. So therefore in conclusion, my congratulations to the co-pilot on a job well done for his part on keeping everybody alive.

One of the hardest things for me to doin this whole experience was to forgive myself for not having donesomething else. Something better," he said, without elaborating. "Thefirst few nights were the worst. The second guessings would come. Madesleep hard." Can we have a better Captain. Pax are blessed and should have mementos flying with Cap Sully.

Fast forward to today and he is a hero. Im not excusing Boeing, but i'd bet my life that if he were the pilot of either of these 2 crashed 737's that he would have landed both of them safetly. He's an astute pilot who takes it upon himself to know everything about the plane he's flying. Plus, he's from an era when pilots actually had to fly their planes. Today's pilots are discouraged from flying with autopilot "off" except for the 1st and last 20 seconds of every flight. When an emergency happenes midflight they are essentially clueless. Just look at Air France 447 and Air Asia 8501...both pilots defied the fundamentals and crashed their planes.

Flight 1549 and the miracle in Hudson river was made by two men. Sully and Jeff. This kind of situation when engines are lost captain flies the plane and co-pilot or first officer helps captain with all availble instrumenatal data. Captain has the one and only job to fly the plane and save the lives with first officer. Sully and Jeff are professionals and they did their duty to the end - Hudson river and 154 lives were saved. I dont class him as a hero, you know why. Because thats legit the job of a pilot. They re trained 2-4 years and trained every 6 months once flying. Their job is to fly you places, but its also to save you if something goes wrong. Thats the same thing as a rescue team, rescuing you from the water and you call them a hero. they arent really, thats legit their job. Theres many stories of pilots succesfully landing a broken plane, catches on fire, but everyone survives, etc etc.. they arent called HEROES whats the difference with sully.

The man is a legend for what he's accomplished through his career and on 1549, so please know that I don't mean any disrespect when I say that I do think that what he did on 1549 was overblown way out of proportion by the media simply to get more viewership and make $$$. I can imagine a lot of pilots would have made the decision to put the plane down in the Hudson, and most of them would likely to have accomplished the same result of no fatalities. If one understands the technicality of what happened, landing it in the Hudson was the only thing that would have made sense at the time. Any competent pilot would immediately realise that there was no way that plane was going to make it to an airport losing both engines under 3,000 feet. It was just extremely lucky that he at least had a river to land on. In many cities around the world this would not have been possible and the consequences would like have been disastrous regardless of the skill of the pilot.
@k1productions876 жыл бұрын
I think even "any competent pilot" would still say Sully deserves recognition for what he did. Just because many others could have done it just as well doesn't mean it in any way lessens the accomplishment of the one who actually did it. I guarantee you, not a single airline pilot (at the time or since) had ever said "big deal, I could have done that too"
