A lot of the more mainstream rock music...you can't even HEAR the bass players at all...It's a shame, but it's probably a blessing in disguise, since most of them can't play for shit anyway :)

surgeyX I mostly agree with ya. Especially with bands like Blink 182, Rufio and Rancid, I wouldn't have it any other way since a dominating bass is part of their soundscape. However, if you listen to Sum 41's records, at least in my opinion, the bass is their to lift up the guitars, and surely, if you were a sound engineer, you'd try and make the live sound come as close to the record as possible, no? :)

i think that for songs like the hell song or still waiting the bass is essential because are songs influenced by hard rock and metal (dont judge me too quickly, here is higher than what i mean)
