A local urban legend claims that lighting fireworks at an abandoned airfield will call the “summer ghost,” a spirit that can answer any question. Three troubled teenagers - Tomoya, Aoi, and Ryo - do not know each other yet, but each has their own reasons to show up one day. When a sparkler is lit, a ghost named Ayane appears, and she reveals she is only visible to those “who are about to touch their death.” The three teens return home, but Tomoya soon begins visiting the airfield alone, as he becomes obsessed with the mystery surrounding Ayane and the true purpose of her visits.
Inspired by one of his own drawings, this remarkable directorial debut from the celebrated illustrator loundraw brings his lush visual sensibility to a poignant supernatural drama about the struggles of growing up, and the importance of living life to the fullest.

this reminds me of Shinkai's early films, with the rough looking character animation and the gorgeous backgrounds

this film was amazing. the line that stuck to me the most was “everyone dies, but do we all live?” it's so true-we will all die someday, but not all of us truly live in the present and cherish our time of living

Moral lesson: Treasure your life because you are the living proof that every person is a survivor of pain, and you, being alive is a gift and miracle. Not all people is given this blessings to experience this world.

This film is pure art, watched it two times, once yesterday once today, both times cried like crazy. I wasn't expecting such a powerful and beautiful story, the way they use the environment as storytelling element is marvelous, the music and artstyle merge perfectly and the fact that they were able to make it all work in less than 40 minutes makes it one of my all time favorites

I cant bearing to watch it again, because i will definitely going to cry like crazy. I watched this when i was at my lowest point and in that moment i decide to live as happy as i can, whether the reality isnt all great. I create my own "summer ghost" that telling me not to wish for myself to die and live, keeping me from that dark thought.

@@divinitylain7790yeah me too but i can't cry normally...like my tears won't drop.. so i watched it like 5 times already so i can cry like crazy and let it all out...this movie inspired me too not die too.. as i have created my own summer ghost for my reality...it sucks we are on the same page.. but i hope you get through of it and live happily 🩵take care and never die..🎐

I came here to immerse myself in nostalgia as summer swiftly comes to an end. This movie never fails to bring tears to my eyes with each viewing. Over the last 2 years, I've lost track of how many times I've watched it, as it has firmly secured its place as one of my absolute favorites. The storyline hits close to home, and the movie's message to cherish life resonates deeply with me. I'm absolutely glad to have discovered this film

This film reminded me of a book/manga called 3 Days of Happiness. The way it portrays the concept of death and living is just so beautiful. 3 teenagers finding the meaning in life and having suicidal thoughts is just so relating. I personally felt something ethereal from this movie (same I felt from the book 3 Days of Happiness) I can't help but feel so trapped and bound by this life, I just want to be free. "I can't feel alive even though I'm alive , "searching for a way to be free". I dont know what I'm writing but this kind of things make me oddly conscious.

aha! i thought this looked like loundraw’s work! i was very surprised to see their name on Josee, the Tiger and the Fish, and i’m excited to see they’re getting into it more, since i’ve always thought their work was so reminiscent of these types of movies

I just graduated hs and am going to college in a month. idk what to major in, idk what to do further in life. This movie kinda gave hope that i'll eventually find something, some purpose and there's a reason why im still going forward. lol might sound cheesy but it gave me a hope to keep moving on and everything will pass. I just can't give up yet :))

I was surprised by how much i enjoyed this movie. The voice acting really stood out to me with how flat but also believable it was. I guess the word I'm looking for is grounded. I love the more fantastical and super quirky style of voice acting too, but this was like a nice break from it.
