A lot of vintage YA horror is hit or miss, mostly because publishers were pressuring these authors to write books with very little time. Stine was cranking out books monthly and Pike had to write a lot of his YA books in just a few months. Anyways, great list! Good to see you back making videos!

Hey Zack. Thanks, and good to hear from you. I just finished watching your video on Kings book of short stories. Very cool. Yeah it's crazy to think Stine was writing a book a month and he must have done it for years. I'm digging the Howler and can't wait to read more Nightmare Room ...and Fear Street. I'm gonna read more Pike too.

Great summer reading list! I believe that Whisper of Death is a lot of people’s favorite. Maybe you’ll love it, maybe you’ll hate it, just keep reading in general. Stay cool. Southern heat is unlike any other.

Thanks alot. Yeah I've heard from a lot of folks that Whisper of Death is excellent. I'm excited to read that one. I also want to read his adult horror book the Cold One.

Awesome summer list! I’m so with you on reading should be fun. It’s why I’m not ashamed at age 37 that I read mostly YA and thrillers. If literary fiction or classic literature doesn’t work for you then skip that crap. At the end of the day no gives a rip if you’ve read War & Peace or The Great Gatsby. So read what you enjoy. Got a book series recommendation for you I think you’ll love since you like horror and YA….Lockwood & Co. by Jonathan Stroud. It’s about a group of adolescent ghost hunters. First book is called The Screaming Staircase. Phenomenal series that I had a blast with.

Thanks so much for the cool comments and the recommendation. Lockwood and Co. sounds pretty cool. I'll definitely check it out.

"Mississippi in the middle of a dry spell". Have you read any books by Greg Iles? He's from Natchez and the books that I've read by him are excellent. I have about 7 of his books on my TBR. The humidity in Mississippi will suffocate you! Another solid video. Keep 'em coming. -James

Thank you so much my friend. I have heard of Greg Iles. Haven't read his work yet but will. I'm from Mississippi originally and there are so many writers from there. I grew up loving Barry Hannah, Faulkner, Larry Brown and John Kennedy Toole from New Orleans. And hell yes, the heat is suffocating. I love Natchez. It's a beautiful old city.

Great video. I read April Fools a long time ago and I didn't like it much etiher. I read Laughing is Forever. There were a couple of books I finished that I had started about three years ago and some other writings that had that small font I didn't like. I prefer bigger font. Most of the time I'm using 12 point Garamond. I'm gonna buy Jake Skeets' new poetry book Horses when it comes out. I liked his first poetry book. He has some good readings on YT.

Thank you my friend, and thanks for reading Laughing is Forever. At the last minute I changed the font to Cambria so it would be a bit.....richer. Darker. Are you trying to publish your work and/or enter contests?

@@Sunnyvalereject24 Well, these days, I self-publish some small poetry collections mostly just for me. I will have those books to hold during the rare times I read at a poetry reading. It's too much like the old music business to me to send off manuscripts and enter contests. There were things in music that I didn't want anything to do with so I didn't. You probably know Dave Williams from Drowning Pool. He was a freshman in high school while I was a senior and we talked, etc. a few times. He is an example of someone very serious to be known and popular, etc. I haven't written a song since 2005 that I can think of. I need art to feel more like a hobby and to not be so serious about it. Another guy I know enters lots of book contests and has won a few awards. He told me to enter contests but I haven't. Maybe I will send a few poems out in the future to a small publisher to include in a poetry collection. The one poem I sent you is from a simple book I made. I like the white paperback version I made. I don't think the black hardback looks as good and it costs so much more to make.

When you speak, you make a lot of sense. I hear what you're saying about self publishing. It's the very best way to go these days. Especially if you believe in yourself. I mean there's really no money in publishing, for the author, so why not do it yourself and keep control. Publishers want to control the narrative and the profits. I like entering contests tho. I want and need confirmation that my shit rocks. Someone besides those who care about me telling me it's good, you know. And it certainly helps in bi lines and marketing material. I can always tell you're coming from an honorable standpoint.
