This vindicates me a fair bit to some of my other friends I watch RWBY with. This feels like Summer and Raven gearing up for a final showdown with Salem, and Raven seems quite different. Even before she left Yang, she didn't seem to have given up on the fight just yet, especially if Summer convinced her to do this. Raven's behavior, and how she talked about how there was no stopping, destroying, or reasoning with Salem sounded like it was from experience, meaning she must have cut down Salem herself at one point or fatally injured her in some way to see her revive. If there was one final charge against Salem that lead to Summer's 'Death' (Or a fate worse than death), and Raven had to watch... that goes a long way in explaining how she acts now. I'm also reminded of the battle in Haven Academy, when Ruby implores Raven to join them and fight Salem together. The sudden cut to Raven's dead-eyed stare hits a lot different now, especially with her comment on sounding just like her mother. That's probably just what Summer said to get her to join the battle that they lost.

It's been four volumes since Raven was last seen, and you can really tell that the animation team have gotten better since then. Much smoother movements and more expressive faces 😊

Remember how Raven said “Salem only discards of people when they’re no longer useful”? She said it as if she was speaking from experience. This makes me believe, either Raven and Summer were manipulated by Salem or formed a deal with her, and didn’t get their end of the bargain, or Summer was turned into a hound when she could no longer be useful to Salem. Or perhaps she was speaking from experience with Ozpin and she lost Summer, the last person she had with her- God this seems dark now-

Since Raven can only open portals to those she’s close to, that portal probably lead to Qrow. Qrow is the one who tells Ruby her mom died on a secret mission for Ozpin. Ravens personality shifting from a pretty chill person to grudging and bitter makes so much more sense. This implies this is the mission that resulted in summers death and Raven and Qrow falling out. Seems Tai was left out of it, explains when he gives Qrow a glare in v3 finale when he ask for alone time with Ruby.

If I remember correctly Raven can only open portals with someone she has a connection with so I wonder who she went to, my first guess is Qrow but maybe someone from their tribe?

Working theory - Summer has access to the Crown of Choice and has made her decision just like Dr Strange found only one option to defeat Thanos. The choice must have made a sour note with Raven that turned her bitter.

Actually at that time, I think raven and summer was assigned to fetch the spring and summer maidens, also to protect them at different locations. Raven haven't figured out that Salem can't be killed. That's why raven kept secret that she is the latest spring maiden and used vernal as decoy. I have a theory that summer's death is also another decoy, she's possibly the latest summer maiden in hiding, both didn't want their family's to be involved. It's a clue how winter schnee became the winter maiden

This might sound far fetched to some people, but I truly believe Summer Rose was the previous Spring maiden and when she died, she passed it off to Raven burdening her because I cannot for the life of me think of any other way how someone would have chosen Raven to have those powers other than being the person there with her when she died.

Whatever happened on that mission with Raven and Summer change Raven dramatically to the Raven we know now. If you think about it Raven wants to be as far away as possible from her family yet she has a semblance that can take her straight to them💀On the other hand, Qrow probably would love to be around his family yet he has a semblance that makes him nearly impossible to be around😢 Considering semblance & a persons personality has a connection maybe they had different personalities in their Youth or maybe switched them. Maybe Raven was the lovable one and Qrow the antagonistic one until Summer Died and they kinda switched it because of guilt or something like that. I use to think that Qrow could have been the cause of Summer's death with his Semblance by accident or Raven could have helped her instantly but failed to do so. But since we have the scene with Raven and Summer going on a secret mission Raven could have been part of the reason why she's dead. Maybe she was too stunned to move like Ruby was in EP 8 where the rest of team RWBY and Jaune was fighting the Jabberwalker's and watch Summer die. Raven isn't evil she's just broken.

Raven seems much more upbeat than usual, and Summer is kuch more blunt around her than i expected. I really want to see more of these two interacting, there's so much intriguing characterization in just this short clip *^*

I really hope that Raven is going to appear in Vacuo. We need answers to what happened to Summer. Qrow would probably be mad his sister knew something all this time and said nothing. If Raven is in Vacuo I'd also kinda like to see a Raven vs Winter scene, Spring vs Winter Maidens. That would be interesting since we already got to see how both Winter and Raven would do against Cinder.

You know, there was a bit more bite behind Summer's words about "Your one to talk." Then just being upset Raven left Yang. It almost seems like Raven, Summer and Tai where a Polycule or something, and Summer's still upset about Raven leaving them.

I like to believe that she was the Summer Maiden (yeah I know) and maybe her last thoughts were with her daughter, and maybe that's why Ruby's silver eyes are more powerful as stated by Hazel: "How is it a novice bested one of us?" Yeah Salem states it's because of Cinder's inexperience with the Maiden powers, but what if a Maiden's power is stronger when wielded by a silver eyed warrior?

Wait a second......Spring ran away a while before they reached Haven, right? So Raven would have had the powers one way or another. There was a question missing from the lamp when they first summoned Jinn. I wonder.....did Summer use the first Question to find out how to beat Salem?

So Summer lied about going on a mission from Ozpin.

Hopefully, this one scene will prompt Ruby into finding out what happened to Summer by confronting Raven. She needs this kind of closure somehow. Plus, it's going to take more than an apology to the half-sisters to truly forgive her.

I know this scene is very important and I know this may be further looked into in volume 10 cause now we know raven may know what exactly happen to summer, but I cannot stop staring at how thick ravens bottom lip is 😮 it was never that thick before.
