I remember this storm so vividly. It was the very last day of year 11 and my bus (301 route to Toombul) dropped me off on Zillman road, about 1.5km from my house. I remember looking at the storm front rolling in and thinking, holy shit, I need to run home NOW. I was in school uniform with all my bags running home and I remember getting looks from people in their cars, meanwhile the storm was coming in closer. As I neared home it started raining and the storm was coming overhead, the blackest clouds I'd ever seen and I'd grown up in SEQ my whole life. As soon as I got through the door the hail started pelting down, I'd never seen anything quite like it. Was always glad I had the common sense to run home though

On that arvo, I managed to make it onto a train at Park Road once the hail began. The sound of hail pelting that train cabin was ridiculously loud. The train remained there for a few hours which gave me enough time to venture to UQ via bus to grab some dinner... saw a whole bunch of trees uprooted. Really sad site considering I did my undergrad and postgrad there.

I remember that storm. I’d just started my new job that week on the 21st floor of Riparian plaza. The windows in the building rattled and we saw a deck chair and someone’s clothes horse fly past the window, swept away from a nearby apartment building. (It landed on Friday’s roof). When the storm finished, the city smelt like a garden salad from all the freshly shredded leaves stripped off the trees. And so many cars had smashed out windows. The bus stops on Adelaide st were packed to the max with people as the trains were down.

I remember reading in the paper about a woman in the Logan area where it was really bad whose car windows had been smashed in by the hail so she used her own body to protect her baby. She was covered in massive bruises with a big cut on her face. It was strange because the northern part of Brisbane I lived in was barely touched, just trees and some power lines taken down, debris etc. To read how someone was almost battered to death by hailstones was surreal.

I have 2 spinal bones that are split to pieces that they can't fix, and I miss walking around with my family and friends!! So if your in a heavy spot Jeremy, stay alert and keep yourself safe okay ?? I remember that storm. I nearly finished year 1 when that happened. My grandparents picked me up and said ‘WE HAVE A BIG STORM COMING, WE DONT HAVE TIME TO GO TO MACDONALDS, WE NEED TO GET HOME BEFORE IT HITS US. We went home and during that storm, we lost power for a couple of days. A couple of hours after we lost power. We went to my aunties and uncles house to pick up some candles and then returned home. The alarm was going off so my grandfather turned it off while my grandmother and I were in bed. My parents were in England then. A couple of days later, the power is back on.
