The good ol days. I was in that crowd as a 14 yo headbanger. Just like that news bulletin said, that night went right on with it. It was New Years Eve. They ripped that traffic lights right out of the ground. They changed it to January the year after. No more New Years Eve Summernats. Thank you for this memory captured in time. Not everyone could afford a video camcorder back then, as you can tell by the attention your camera was getting along Northbourne 🤣

Thanks for putting this up mate! The best years of Summernats! This brings back some awesome memories. My Uncle had a flat on Northbourne Ave and he ran a hose out the back to the traffic lights and at the ripe old age of Ten I was hosing water under the back tyres while cars stopped at the lights. I saw that many burnouts it was the best time of my life! At the time my Uncle had an SLR 5000 and Dad had a turbo VB wagon and they were both weapons! Rebuilding a HJ tonner with my 14 yr old Son and trying to keep this culture alive! Cheers Again!!

Thanks for sharing that. I'm glad the video was still salvageable. My first was '87 as a kid. Entered my own car in Summernats 16. The heart of this event is still beating, but social media has brought out some real flogs these days. I hope they don't kill it.

People these days are different. I don't know if it's social media but the way people behave at Summer Nats these days is nothing short of selfish psychotic and disgraceful. My father used to take me to these sorts of events and they were great events but with they way today's sociopaths act I wouldn't take my children to these events. Shame Australian society has gone downhill so fast.

Back when we thought it was called the SLR5000 because you could buy one for $5000

I was in the grandstand and took a photo of the blue HQ Monaro at 40:30 and if I remember correctly it was running methanol and I managed to capture a a large but faint orange flame coming out the back. Methanol is hard to see when it’s burning. They were wild days and every time the authorities threatened to cancel it but it keeps on going. I was in my mid 20’s then and living in Canberra, still do, so I went every year. I’m in my early 60’s now and haven’t been for many years. You may also notice it was before everyone got fat. The wet t-shirt competition usually turned into a strip show with the winner often the girl that was willing to get all her gear off. Great times and good memories. Thanks.

Thanks for posting the vid Vee man it shows that Summernats has changed a lot in many ways and it haven't changed in many ways so yeah no one holding their phones in the air not many tattoos or blown methanol engines in the burnout and lynchy has progressed the burnout a long way from back then Summernat 36 had some bad behaviour and arrests but no where near to the extent it was back then ahh i miss the good old days lol

That holden van with the murals I remember seeing at Homebush car show I was 12 at the time he was a friend of my uncles he lived for his car and his mates we went there in my uncles ford tc cortina tc 1972 that was totally stock factory but with a 351 top loader and 9 inch my uncle and my father put in it they where both mechanical engineers

just look at the attitude difference in the crowd compared to the fools there now. We really have gone down hill as a society if you judge it by this video & videos from last week.

Was there in the good old days went for about 10yrs until they pushed light pole over near servo on corner , bus loads cops turned up and herded everyone outside back into natex complex , next yr you couldn't camp on nth borne.

Before the days of political correctness, where people didn't take offence to everything, and you could speak freely without feeling like you're in a dictatorship! .. My first summernats was 36 ! .. I was determined to go couldn't get accommodation, so i had to camp out illegally around Canberra city... Was asked to move on by a security patrol, when i explained what I was doing and why, the guard showed me a place to charge my phone! , And says be gone by morning! . Kept my word and fkd off ..... Had a Nice couple at nats buy me a $13 can of beer! ... Might share this to my channel if ya don't mind? . It needs to be seen! ..
