Being someone that saw every inch of this story as it developed, this article is very bias and flawed. It's a mashup of several different stories through the last two years that are completely unrelated. Making them sound like a sequence of related events.

Its crazy honestly, yesterday i was playing SoT with my boys, and we’re a reaper. An athenas emissary pulls up and calls us toxic for sinking them over and over when they keep coming towards us. They literally told us, “you guys are being toxic assholes etc etc You are not following the pirate code.” They also asked other people for our usernames to report us. I genuinely don’t understand the SoT community sometimes.

I remember the stream where summit was stalking one of the ships and found out that the target was a young child and he instead completely turned around the experience and helped the child hand in his rewards in an entertaining way for the viewership but also to the positive experience of the target, regardless of how summit generally carries himself and his vocabulary it is hard to agree with the opinion that he is toxic and shouldn't be part of the community

You can sum the OP article with one word "THIEVES" Most of the people in SoT today or even in the beginning dont care about LOOT - its just content. Laughing, creating situations, trolling of course (if done right, its funny and not toxic). Every time I would get into SoT is a different situation and adventure, it's what makes the game. You got people doing dungeons and then you got the THIEVES stealing it, or trying to! Guess what, we have ALL been in BOTH sides of the fence either happy we STOLE loot or RAGING because you just lost 3 hours of loot stashing. At the end, its all fun and game. SoT is whatever you wanna make of it and toxic people will be in ALLLLLLLL GAMESSS, ALL!!! but you see mostly toxic KIDS I would say in games where KIDS can over populate most of the community. Yeah, they are KIDS they are immature and they just want a haaard laugh and be able to tell their friends. Streamers want content, no matter which game and SoT will continue to be toxic but not because Summit1G and other streamers starter lol, its always been like this in online gaming and will always be... *What a lame article*

whenever i sink someone they spawn 3 islands away and are back within 5 mins. when they sink me i spawn on another map and gotta take the bus 40 mins to get back to the island. never met a pve-er that got spawned decently far away

i was actually one of the players that got banned in that whole mishap. I never ever was toxic/harassed rocco ever. I ran into them a few times and was never ever toxic or harassed them. One time we did run into rocco one of my crewmates (who I don't play with anymore) said some really dodgy stuff. But never did I personally say anything that should/would result in a ban. I have multiple clips and screenshots that would be considered toxicity or harassment based off of their definition of toxicity and harassment. A lot of my friends involved in some of the run ins/fights were also banned. This whole situation was handled poorly on rare's end and the community's end. There is absolutely no reason I should be banned or some of my other friends should be banned and I'm not just saying that because they are my buddy's. We have a reputation and we like to keep that clean, none of us are toxic towards content creators or harass them in anyway. Im over the game and have moved onto other games, if you're somehow reading this and have any questions on the situation just reply, I love talking about this stupid topic and informing others on my perspective on the whole incident. :)

When summit mentioned that the alliance server boats would scuttle so they would spawn closer isn’t the case. The reason they would spawn so close is bc if you are in a alliance and sink you will spawn 1 island away from your closest alli boat. Which I hope sot will change someday every dumb machanic imo

After watching this, I think I've gotten more respect for Summit. I really used to not like him because he just seemed obnoxious and had some bad takes, but he seems pretty chill and definitely wasn't in the wrong for the whole Rocco thing. I will say that I don't agree with his views on alliance servers. Before anyone gets on my case, let me explain. SoT is a sandbox game at it's core, with many different ways to play and enjoy the world. I don't think that people who use alliance servers are by any means ruining the game for anyone, honestly. From what I've heard, it takes a great deal to even set up the fleet/alliance servers, so if people really want to put in that effort, I don't see why it matters. I've heard the argument that alliance servers remove players from the overworld, and leave less people to steal from, but that just isn't the case. Especially now with SoT being released on steam, the game is more alive than ever. It's like summit said, the alliance server discords are such a niche and small part of the community that it really doesn't matter. If you like pvp, cool, go plunder to your hearts content. If you like pve and want a more relaxed session, cool, go do so. I myself like to do both, it just depends on the day, but generally I like making big plays and stealing what loot I can. I don't think anyone needs to be shamed for playing how they like.

I’m bouta go off on a rant so here’s the tldr: Sea of Thieves is not for snowflakes Sea of Thieves is full of snowflakes. I stopped playing regularly a few months ago because of the bugs they have with PvP, but that’s besides the point. Rare caters to these snowflakes by giving them new Adventure Quests, Tall Tales, and plenty of other things to do. It’s been said before, I’ve said it before, and I’ll sure as hell say it again: this is not “Sea of Friends” or “Sea of Adventure”, this is “Sea of Thieves”. PvP is a feature in the game this includes but is not limited to: stealing loot, combat (obviously), trash talk (pirate game), etc. One community can double gun and fight on islands (sandbox, open world game btw) and are supposedly playing the game wrong. Other communities can fill a server with ships with their friends on it and do quests without PvP (removing an intended game feature). “buT wHAt ABoUt ALliANceS?” I don’t think the goal of an alliance is to completely remove threats, it’s to become more powerful and gain some friends so you have a better chance at fending off enemies. These snowflakes beg for private servers and Rare makes private servers. We ask them to fix pvp bugs and they remove wall bangs and hit registration is not much better than it was at launch. Still can’t believe they released a game where hit registration is this inconsistent. Now finally, the claim: “ Rare does not about toxic behavior.” That is BS. There was a person who got on an account impersonating a well known member from the tdm community and stream sniped SayHeyRocco. In game chat in game they said to Rocco: “Pace22GetRaappppeeeedddddd”. This was brought to Rare’s attention and shortly after over 62 people from the tdm community received a temporary or permanent ban and were given no reason even when they asked Rare Customer Support. This occurred a few months and I haven’t been active in the tdm community recently so I’m not sure the current status, but this is unacceptable. People can be toxic in Sea of Thieves and pretty much and video game you play, but to say that Rare doesn’t do anything to address toxic behavior is just not at all true. People are just too soft and take everything that some kid playing a pirate game says to them to heart and then claims that their race, their sex, or even they themselves are being targeted. This can be true in some cases, but I’ve played with and against a lot of people that are considered toxic and this never happened. If you cannot take slander and shit talk from PIRATES then you should not be playing Sea of Thieves. Grow the fuck up.

It sucks because this is one of the few games that genuinely make him happy to play on stream, the rest are just because it’s what the audience wants.

One thing I dislike is I've been shafted solo slooping by 4 man galleons many times and on a few of those times some of the guys using the ingame voice chat have screamed stuff like "Go fuck your mum" "Fkn nigga slave; go to hell prick" repeatedly whilst I'm dying. That tore me away from the game. I've wasted hours collecting loot to get gangbanged by 4 man galleons. I'm fine with that but then to mix it with these guys screaming in voice chat those sorts of things. That's what ruined the game for me.

What's funny is, I remember a game 20 years ago that actually did switch from PVP and broke it into PVE and PVP. Ultima Online, had a HUGE community, servers were packed, tons to do for both PVE and PVP players. 99% of the time I played PVE and there was always a chance that somebody could kill you, take EVERYTHING you're carrying (Weapons, armor, gold, deeds, you name it, if you were carrying it, it was fair game). The PVP players scared me, pissed me off, but that was just part of the game. I played UO for years up until they switched and allowed people to choose between PVE and PVP. Although I wasn't a PVP player, it just was the last straw that really ruined the game for me. I liked the option of PVPing if I wanted to, that there was this bond and trust between people that may or may not be broken. It made the entire game just feel so much more organic. If you want a PVE only game then go find yourself a PVE only game. When you try to manipulate server populations because you only want PVE, you're tearing the pool of a few PVP players and a lot of PVE players to an unfair balance and actually ruining it for others. PVP players can be assholes, and it sucks running into them; but man I love that feel of a game where it's more than just doing tasks; and this is one of those games and it feels that much more alive because of it. As far as the shit talking? Sorry but that's just part of it. You bet your buns I'd talk shit to a PVP player that tried to kill me and I whooped that ass.

I dont get why ppl are so against the core aspect that makes the game awesome wich is the freedom of a system completely built upon organic interactions between players on a hostile sandbox... But still, some things i would change to prevent griefing and enhance a solo players experience when just trying to go through the story quests but nothing that would change that core asoect of the game!

The only reason i can think of toxicity in SoT is when players sabotage their own ship with other random players of the same party. Like purposely sailing a galleon into rocks until it sinks, dumping loot off the ship before reaching the island. Toxicity does not apply to another party sinking another ship and taking their loot. Thats pvp, its the game's intended design. Thus, Sea of Thieves.

It was mainly somthing to do with Paces friend Beers and SayHeyRocco and Rocco was a bit pissed that Pace didn't say anything about it. But now Pace doesn't play SoT with Beers anymore. I don't know the full rest of the story but Beers and Rocco im sure was the beginning of this.

It sounds like they're talking about a cheater when they're not, which makes this whole thing so hilarious.

Fact of the matter is Summit and Pace kept that game alive, not the PvE advocates that want a sandbox game.

They should add like a “hard mode” where loot is doubled and your ship has one life or like “LTMS“ for an example Sloops Only for a week as a separate mode next to adventure or galleons, brig etc.

I enjoyed SoT with my buddies going around PVPing. My wife started playing games with me recently. We've played tons of games and we tried SoT a few times. As much as I loved the game when PvPing with friends, I equally dislike the game when trying to chill and play with my wife. I've just realized it's not that type of game. No reason to get upset about it. There are plenty of other games that we can chill and have fun together.

When I first starting playing the game I was worried about pvp but finding summits videos early on made me excited to engage it combat. Whether I won or lost the engagement it was the battle that gave me excitement and eventually got me to be a pirate legend by giving me new experiences

When I have loot, 100% I expect to get dumpster'd! I'm a PVE'er more than I am a PVP'er so I am 100% going to get dunked on, but I think the "toxic" behavior that I can't stand is like this, an example: Last week my friend died.. I wanted to just relax and fish, JUST FISH and work on my Hunter's Call stuff, I JUST logged in, stocked up my ship.. a Gally rolls up and starts killing me, in voice and in text I kept asking nicely "please stop killing me, I have nothing!" (people will say "oh but they had you muted" well then..) after being spawn camped for NO REASON I said "Please, my friend just died I just want to play and enjoy the game! PLEASE Stop killing me for no reason"... IN VOICE they laughed and said "GET @#$% DORK! @#$% your friend I'm glad they're dead!"... THAT is the shit I can't comprehend :( It makes me WANT a PVE server for just PVE'ing, which people will say "But it's a PVP game" but then why is there PVE aspects? Make the AI harder and even have AI pirates, because the PLAYERS that are being heartless and toxic give AMAZING people like Summit and Pace bad names! Because yes, I get it.. it's a PVP game but there is MORE to the game than being a piece of #@#$ and making the game experience terrible for others. I personally, have NEVER seen Summit OR Pace be heartless like that! Not even ONCE. #JustTypin #StayAwesome

I'm genuinely confused here. If you actively buy a pirate game, what do you want from it? For me it was the risk factor and tension of getting and protecting loot. For people who dislike their stuff being taken, what makes sea of thieves fun for you? Only thing I can think of is the mostly chill downtime and progression, but other games can do that. If it's the sailing and water physics added on to the aforementioned, then I'm sorry but I hope the game never becomes just a passive pve grind. It would lose everything that made the game what it is. The PVE is easy, but the fact that there is always the chance of it being taken provides incentive to better learn the mechanics of the game. It keeps you on your toes, keeps you alert, and what is supposed to be easy becomes difficult based on the big factor of time taken to do said pve. It's cool to sell loot, but even better to sell loot you fought for in pve and even better to sell that said loot after you've defended it from attackers.

If the opponent is very good, he will place his victim inside an environment he can control (our mind and thoughts).
