Yeah i've been in tons of homes that never have water & never need a sump, Plus you also need a place to put the water outside because if you don't its not doing you any good anyway just recirculating the water to come back in, Although i imagine there is some of the water that disappears & eventually would get gone anyway unless you live in a place that is always wet.

Thanks for the explanation! Replacing a floor drain, and wanted to know if a sump would be necessary or practical, for me it is not XD

My house is 1890 dirt basement slight leakage 1 or 2 gallons. Now I'm putting 4 inches stone,vapor barrier and French drain into an old drain. I've never had flooding in 10 years. I'm not sure if I should put one in. I think my drain would handle the small amount of water I get. Any thoughts?
