Come join me on this very special inaugural trip report to the Essential Air Service community of Eau Claire, Wis. (EAU). Starting Dec.1, 2022 (this video) Sun Country will fly 4x weekly year-round to MSP which is only located 85 miles away and 90 miles by car. Otherwise, they'll fly 2x a week to Orlando, Ft. Myers, and/or Las Vegas depending on the season and month.
*
This is the 46th EAS community I have visited, my first time on Sun Country, my second time being able to find ATC for an EAS community online, and my first time filming a video in 4K quality
*
There were A LOT of AvGeeks on this flight and several of them make appearances a couple of times throughout the video, see yourself somewhere in there? SAY HI!!!
ENJOY

Back when Northwest served EAU they used more efficient (for the distance) Saab 340's to MSP. Many more flights. That ended with the merge with Delta.

Nice to see they have a jetway now. Back in the day when North Central, Republic,Northwest flew there you had to walk outside.Not much fun in the winter. Flew there once-MSP-EAU on a DC-9-50,North Central, and there was 7 people on board....I think at one time there was at least 3 flights a day between MSP and EAU but mostly on Convair 580's.

One of the other local passengers told me that United never used the jetway when they were there, which I found interesting
@dav198

I was probably that local passenger and probably confused something. UA usually used a jetbridge during their service. SY, when they flew their charters, probably didn’t use the jetbridge. Looking at the docket, they had that jetway since before 2015 I think.

The jetway actually works better for Sun Country's 737's than it ever did for the CRJ-200's United Express used..

The EAS is another example of government waste. If a city needs air service then it should subsidize it. If I recall correctly, the EAS was supposed to go away about 10 years after it started. The service is actually 4x roundtrips, period - 2x to MSP and 2x to MCO or LAS or RSW. (It appears that the service to MSP will be 4x a week until the other cities are served) Sun Country is receiving $6, 460,988 subsidy for 400 annual flights. The subsidy for EAU/MSP is over $2 million. They had to receive an exemption to the daily service requirement required by EAS. For MSP, the subsidy per passenger is $46; for the other destinations, the subsidy is $74 to $105. Sure wish I could get my flights subsidized! Looking at the other proposals, it seems like EAU is getting screwed. The other proposals included daily service to MSP and/or ORD.

Yeah, in Caravans and Pilatus aircraft. Can only imagine the number of cancellations on those flights in bad weather, plus the long haul at ORD from the regional gates to wherever you’re heading to. I’m no fan of Sun Country or this EAS route, but given the options, this is the best and likely most reliable of all of them.

the city i am from SPI used to 8-10 flights to ORD now down to 1 on a CRJ-200 and 2 flts to DFW on a RJ-7 plus 2 flts to PGD and IWA on A-320s

Not to be picky but the cruising altitude would have had to be 7000 for IFR going to EAU. But they are allowed to be + or - 200 feet. 😁
@GerardiAviation
@GerardiAviation Жыл бұрын
I thought so too, I was just going by what FR24 was saying for cruise, that way I have someone to blame 😅
@KB-xd5wq
@KB-xd5wq Жыл бұрын
@@GerardiAviation 😀 Yea....FR24 will show the actual altitude but ATC radars scopes will show 7,000 as long as he stays within 200 feet of 7000. If he drops or goes up 300 feet it will show 6,700 or 7300. But nice channel...a lot of different aircraft.
