Thomas Nozkowski, painter
Known for richly colored and improvisational
abstract paintings, this Hudson Valley based
artist paints from personal experience and,
like Thomas Cole, draws inspiration from walks
in the woods. Nozkowski has had 70 one-person
shows and his work is in the permanent collections
of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum
of Modern Art, the Hirshhorn Museum, the Phillips
Collection, the Morgan Library, and the Irish Museum
of Modern Art among many others. Nozkowski is
a member of the American Academy of Arts and
Letters, the National Academy of Design and is a
Guggenheim Fellow. He is Professor of Fine Art
at the Mason Gross School of the Arts of Rutgers
University.
