Did that left turn against someone fender. Small scrape. Big cost. Lesson learned. Common sense became my mantra. Four years accident free. Mr Ott you are the only site that's worth watching.

as a Swift driver, I thank you sir! I put up the Swift FMCSA record a while back on the BRT Facebook that said exactly what you said, since I couldn't make a video like you do, I thank you very much! It takes a special kind if stupid to not do simple math and figure out its a numbers game. It also doesn't help that Swift trucks are cruising billboards, no one says boo when a plain white truck gets into an accident and the company's name is too small to be in the picture... great video man!

Swift is ahead of the curve in this competitive, over-regulated industry. I was a driver for Central Refrigerated Service when Swift merged it into it's portfolio. This is a company that maintains an ultra competitive position in freight movement--and it shows. Sure, there can be an agreement for greater driver training similar to the culture that exists at Prime Inc. I don't this is sustainable over time however, not with the evolving competition in freight movement, capital costs and a world of driver shortages.

the ups amount is correct for TRACTORS & TRAILERS not counting class c non cdl brown delivery trucks... they have both freight & feeder terminals. the "small" feeder terminal near me has about 150 tractors & more trailers, & there is a freight terminal like 3 miles away from it. there are about 15-20 terminals within an 80 mile radius of my home. whether these trucks go otr, local or whatever, they have a much larger fleet than swift.

In reference to what you mentioned about the driver cutting to short and hitting the truck next to him. Several years back, I heard the story of a new volunteer fire fighter, first time getting to drive the new fire truck out of the station in route to a fire. He jumped into the truck, got it started, all the lights on and started out the station door, hit the siren and as soon as the cab cleared the door, started turning the wheel. Well, as you know, that didn't end well. Now is that lack of experience, or being new, just got excited over what he was doing, so didn't pay attention, or…..?

The exit I have to use to get to were I deliver my trailer has a Swift hub on one side of it and a FedeX on the other. Both of them pull out from the stop sign at the end of the exit rams with no consideration for any of the cross traffic they are turning in to or the speed it's traveling at them. The only time they actually stop at the stop sign is when there is a local Law Dog setting a cross the road. It's always a good day when you see them pulled over getting a ticket. LOL

if you look at the stats ~ the group that have the most crashes is the police! ~ it is not only numbers but the amount of miles they clock up as well ~ more time on the road more likely you are to have a crash! eg if you park your car/truck on the drive and do not use it you can not get in a crash!!!!!!

I agree with what you said about common sense. Sadly, I don't feel this is related just to the trucking industry, it's more of a generational thing, or at least that's my take on it. As someone that is in a business that deals with starter jobs (kids just coming out of high school for their 1st actual "job") in the last 3-4 years I've seen a huge increase in the number that just don't know how to think for themselves, unless it's something to do with their smartphone. They were taught to pass a standardized test (here in the states anyway) as opposed to be taught how to reason things out on their own. On the other hand, this is probably the same crap that was said of our generation too.

That's a good website to do homework on carriers for New graduates or those switching companies. Add a + 1 for yourself if you decide to go to that company. I'm not sure if trucking companies are like retail and manufacturing who at times decides to get rid employees who've been with the company for years and want to hire younger wet behind ears people for less money. ( Temp to Hire ) Does trucking carriers use the Temp to Hire scheme to get new drivers in right out of trucking school. I sure hope, that would 3rd reason why accidents happens besides lack of common sense and under pay. Do you use the steering wheel for the trucking simulator

You are absolutely wrong about swift. When a company falsified training records so that they can get drivers there cdl faster and get them on the road, that is a company problem not a hiring bad driver problem.
@bigrigtalkgaming8 жыл бұрын
stick to the topic and don't try and come up with your own agenda. Topic is about fleet size and with that I am 100% right. Also unless you work for their legal dept everything you just said is speculation unless you can provide physical proof of your claim and not just he said she said BS or you heard it from a friend crap

One more question: How much did you make a month when you first started off?
@geno559128 жыл бұрын
Yes there is probably many companies out there that are not tuned to what a driver and truck can do. A trucking company is only as good as the people they have working for them. Until the government makes driver dispatchers and managers culpable as well as the bad drivers. If drivers are going to work for big companies and drive like idiots they get what they deserve when you have a giant advertising billboard your pulling.

It's funny how some truckers defend swift as a starter company( it funny how most bad companies are starter companies) it's like battered wife syndrome ,no matter how bad swift treats it drivers there are going to be other drivers that find away to defend it.if swift really had a safe driver policy then they would not so many accidents.AND STOP TRYING TO PUT ALL THE PROBLEM OF THE ROAD ON NEW DRIVER,WHEN EVERYBODY KNOWS IT THE OWNER OPS WITH THEIR UNGOVERNED TRUCKS THAT STILL RUN LIKE IT IS THE 80's THAT MAKE IT UNSAFE FOR THE REST OF US DRIVERS

A: I Highly doubt swift is eating the truck payments on 3-4 thousand trucks with no drivers in em, yes theres an amount of trucks without drivers, i highly doubt its over 200-300, certainly not thousands, they haul so much cheap freight thhey couldnt afford to let 3 to 4 thousand trucks sit around. B: the argument that there so many that why you seem them fuck up is an invalid one, they make up less than 1% of trucks on the road in north america, but are in at fault incidents or crashes more than the other 99% of companies in "crashes per amount of drivers" percentages. so yes they are terrible and deserving of ridicule. C: you say they hire mostly new drivers to keep costs down that is correct. That is a PROBLEM, that is not okay, accepting that of the big companies is what MAKES them "big shitty companies" that is a topic deserving of discussion, the hiring practices, piss poor training practices, people with less than 10 years exp being allowed to "train" etc etc etc, untill that changes, the big shiity companies like swift will remain the big shitty companies and we will all continue to rag on them because that is an actual problem in our industry. no ragging on them doesnt help, but im saying its an unavoidable by-product of the big boys and their fuckery
