Had one of these in the eighties. Mine had a Herald engine (1360) fitted., with the Twin Weber carbs. When I picked it up I dropped the hood and felt so cool I never noticed the seat adjuster catch wasn’t locked. As I pulled away smartly from the lights, the seat shot backwards and my feet came off the pedals and were left dangling in the air in the footwell. It’s wasn’t a good look! Loved that car, wish I could have one again.

Great classic it brings back fond memories of the early 1970's for me and i can see that you respect it and maintain it very well.

Love it. I bought a 1974 Spitfire 1500 in Edzell Scotland when I was in the US Navy. Loved that car.

Just did the same. I have almost the same car except mine is a GT6 convertible (GT6 chassis with Californian Spitfire body) Same colour but red leather interior, burr elm dash and a few other mods. Filled up at that station a few times as just round the corner from a sports club. Never taken a cover to go to the pub though! (The Blackbird at Ponteland looking at the pictures!) Mine is a 72 - have had it for 21 years since having it built for me! Makes quite a lot more noise though!

He had to buy a Spitfire. Nothing larger would fit into the garage! When I was in college my best friend drove a "Spit"; I received calls for assistance from him on a regular basis. I believe he liked to over-rev the engine. I would help him remove the head so another valve or valve spring(s) could be replaced.

These cars have their detractors, for reasons I just don’t understand. I’ve had mine for over 40 years (though not driven it for quite some time!) and when properly sorted, the Mk.1V /1500 can be smooth, quiet and a joy to drive, particularly when fitted with overdrive. Mine reminded me of my XK140, in miniature , long since sold.

Do you have the original footage without the music and just the sound of the engine?

I know. Annoying music. I owned one. The exhaust sound was my music.

Beautiful Spitfire! I had one of these in the late 70's, same year model as yours but in Sienna Brown. I don't recall mine having the wooden dash. That Spit wasn't exactly the best choice as a first car/daily driver, but I was a teenager, it was the car I wanted and it fit my budget. I sure had a lot of fun with it when it was running. In case you end up making any other videos, count me in with the others that would prefer the soundtrack of just the car without the music. It sounds very nice on it's own. Enjoy!

Lovely car. I'm guessing the downvotes on this were purely because of the awful free youtube Muzak being way louder than the classic car sound itself, can't think of any other reason. The dark blue really suits it very well, rather than the 'Look at me' shouty reds and yellows (my first Spitfires was red, my 2nd was bright yellow!)

There are a ton of these cars still running in America. I really like the look of them, but I don't think if you are over 5'11" you would enjoy this car. You can see when it's parked next to another car how small it really is. England is a strange place, no bigger than Washington and Oregon. Further north than most of the lower 48, long summer days, lots of rain.
@joecebu27915 жыл бұрын
My friend was 6'6 and he had plenty of leg room and head room, coz the seats were very low and deep wells, but he felt a little cramped. Getting in and out was a bit of a chore, but it was more comfortable for him than you'd imagine. I'm only 5'7, so it was perfect for me. One of my favorite cars ever. Cornered like a dream. I could drive right under a semi
@gabdesjardins89894 жыл бұрын
I'm 6'2 and the driving position is perfectly fine to me. The only thing i could say is that the visibility is weird since the top of the windshield is at my eyes height... but i guess this is part of the charm !

That little dab of glorious engine sounds was inadequate compensation for the nearly constant bombardment of noise some demented lounge singer might call music. I nearly flushed my computer speakers down the loo. Please don't do it again.
