I planted sunflowers for the first time this year 2020 and how amazing are these sunflowers! The seed were sent to me as a promotion to help the bees to thrive. Absolutely, love that idea to store the seeds in a mason jar as I was wondering the best way to store them and remember the next year to plant them. Many thanks for your video and ideas!

Hi Lisa , yay you ! So happy to hear you have sunflowers and bees 🐝. Super combination . The best way to store the sunflower seeds is to make sure they are super dry before putting them in the mason jars . Then find a cool dark place to leave the jars in and you are all set until it’s time to plant the sunflower seeds in spring . Happy planting 👍🌻🤗

Hi Kelly, I planted sunflowers for the first time in 2021 here in South Australia, Australia. What I love about these flowers is that they just make me happy and bring me joy. So much so that I have made it a mission to plant them every year from now on. I watched your video on how to harvest the seeds and plan to do them and share with friends. I'm also going to check out your other videos just because you have such a nice vibe about you. Have a nice day :)

Hi. Just come across your video today. I'm from New Zealand so my seasons are opposite. I tried planting Sun Flower from seeds that were given to me, for first time. I planted from in my greenhouse early spring and transplanted to a spot in my garden at start of summer. They worked out very well and want to try growing from my current crop. Our summer season is about to come to an end. I found your video very helpful. Thank you.

You can also start your sunflower seeds, before the last frost, by putting them in a folded paper towel, sprayed with water & put them in a container like a shallow plastic container with a lid. That keeps the moisture in & in about a week or so they will have sprouted a root tendril, then you can plant them.

I have 2 questions. Can I cut my dying sunflower heads earlier and let the head dry out somewhere out of sight before harvesting the seeds so it's not an eye sore? Second question is how long does it take for seeds to dry out before I can replant? I live in California, so we don't get frost seasons very often.

Good morning. Writing from Rhode Island. So do I leave all of the drooping heads abd don’t ever cut back to stimulate more growth?

Thanks for sharing. I recently harvested my mammoth sunflower. However, there were no seeds in the husk. Why is that?

Thank you! I buy these enormous & beautiful sunflowers from a local farm stand. Once they die I let them dry out on my porch - full sun to save the seeds. I’m not getting the yield that I see in yours. Am I drying them out too much?

Hi Kelly! So I’m super new doing this and I love it! I live in Hawai’i so it’s always hot and sunny. Should I wait until the flowers are dry to start the whole process again? And once the flower is dead, do I pull out the whole plant ? Thank you Ana I really enjoy your videos!

Hey Naty, i think thats a good idea . Ive never grown them in a paradise climate like yours but the back to back growing season makes sense to me . Just make sure that the sunflower seeds you harvest are completely mature on the plant . They should be very plump and will be pretty easy to remove . I’d like to invite you to join my Kelly Lehman Flower Tribe Facebook Group.Flower Tribe members can post images of their gardens from all around the world and ask and answer garden questions with each other . Hope to see you there 🤗🌸 ➡️ facebook.com/groups/173080477731043

Great video! Thank you. I removed my seeds and they have been drying out on a paper towel in my garage for about a week. Can the seeds become too dried out to germinate again?

Hi Karen , i dont think so . As long as you keep them away from sunlight and a heat source they should be good . In a few weeks, you can put them in a paper bar or mason jars and store them in a cool dark place like a basement until spring comes .Happy gardening ! 🌸😊Kelly
