Sunflower T1 Tactile Switch - Better than BOBA U4T?

Welcome to Keybored! Sunflower T1 Tactile - Durock's Answer to BOBA U4T
It would be an understatement if I said that the keyboard hobby is gaining more and more traction, and there are more switches out there than ever before. Today, I will be reviewing a new tactile switch from Durock, the Sunflower T1.
The Sunflower T1 is unique in that it's similar to a standard T1, but features a full POM housing, with a "Mystery Blend" long Stem. This is essentially the tactile version of the Durock POM Linear "Piano" that I have also reviewed on this channel before. However, although I don't believe the stem is the same UHMWPE material as the linear, it is still an exceptionally smooth switch with a crazy tactile response. This is truly a great alternative to the Boba U4T, if you're looking for something a bit more clacky and smoother.

Did you experience these switches getting smoother over time? mine were super tactile and were a bit sluggish on the upstroke when I first got them. I didn't notice unless I was typing above 110 wpm, but it felt like the switch just wasn't coming up as fast as it should have. After a few days of use the tactility wasn't fatiguing to type on and the upstroke problem wasn't there anymore.

Yup! I feel like this phenomenon happens with a lot of switches, especially the hyper tactile ones with a huge bump... the bump and the leaf needs a bit of time to wear in, and afterwards, they do feel like they actuate much better

Keybored, Do you have experience swapping springs on the sunflower switch? What spring weight do you prefer? Thank you. Do you find the spring on the sunflower 67g too strong? I bought both boba u4t 62g and sunflower switch because of this video. Overall I feel the sunflower switch is superior in build quality (evident when opening and closing the switch). While I like the sound of boba u4t, the sunflower feels more premium to type on (not sure if the spring weight cause the feeling). Now I wondering if I should change the spring of the sunflower to 63.5gram or 65gram durock spring to get the best of both world, maintaining superior housing while lowering spring resistance for more comfortable typing, without feeling cheap like boba u4t. PS: sorry I don't mean to offend anyone. I still love the boba u4t and have it in my kbd67 v3 aluminum board. I don't think u4t is cheap, it's just not as premium built as the sunflower...just my honest opinion.

Both the boba u4t and sunflowers seem to have long stems. Does this mean I can technically use any of them with cherry profile keycaps without interference? Cause from what some people have suggested, if your switches have long stems there's not going to be any sort of interference on north facing led boards because the switch stem sticks up a little bit when bottomed out and it's not flush with the casing.
@Keybored

From experience, some of these cherry profile keycaps have more material and can interfere. But for the most part, the long stems do help here, so the chances of it are lower!

I dont know how scientific is the switch duel method, but does that mean we can actually have more ways to proof/unproof that "all brown are the same"? Would be interesting to see if typical brown switches is actually as "not tactile" as people make it out to be and if theres any difference between mainstream browns.

No problem! I really like the MV7, but still getting used to it! It is definitely so much cleaner than my previous Fifine, but being a dynamic mic, it needs to be much closer to the subject! For voice, it definitely has some plosives, but I realized that adding a pop filter in front really helps!

I feel like the tactility is almost the same... I think the U4T's scratch makes it feel like it might be slightly more tactile... but I like the smooth tactility of the Sunflowers better. Tried these switches and the smoothness weirded me out. I'm not used to tactile switches being this smooth even lubed. The smoothness really makes the bump feel sharper than bobas. I think I still prefer bobas as they sound fuller and deeper. These kinda have a hollowness to them. The factory lubing is good so if you don't want to lube your switches, these might be a good option. Maybe they'll feel better after I break them in, but so far it's a bit too much for me.

which do you prefer, c3 kiwi or sunflower? im really confuse which to choose between those two
@Keybored
@Keybored 3 жыл бұрын
Funny how you ask, since I had this exact conversation with a friend this weekend with a batch of sunflowers and batch of Kiwis sitting out on a desk... I actually prefer the sunflower over the Kiwi. The Kiwi has slightly better stem tolerance and does feel a tad bit smoother to me, but the sound is sooo high pitched. The sunflower has better sound characteristics and more personality than the Kiwi I feel. The other side of the argument was that if you do drop halo stems into the kiwi and make "holy kiwis" then that becomes a fairly interesting switch, but that requires much more work and cost. As of today, I would take sunflowers Vs. the Kiwis, unless I needed the kiwis for their look... or really want a smooth tactile with a high pitched sound.

@@Keybored I wound up doing mine pretty generously with 205g0. Still very much the strongest tactile switch on the market, I'd say, but the lube cleans up the light amounts of spring ping, and the large amount of that hideous crunchy, pinging leaf noise, and makes the bump feel smoother and less ragged. Definitely a very enjoyable tactile switch, but looking forward to trying something of a lighter strength like SP-Star's Dark Magic Girls.
