Official selection at the La Cinef Section of Cannes, Chidananda S Naik's Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know is a 15-minute film, centers on an elderly woman whose theft of the village's prized rooster throws the community into perpetual darkness, disrupting its harmony.
This act propels the villagers into a frantic search to recover the missing bird and restore sunlight. Filmed entirely at night, the movie exudes an air of mystery and intrigue.
Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know is inspired by a Kannada folktale that Chidananda has cherished since childhood. To his surprise, despite its popularity within Karnataka, he found that most people outside the state were unfamiliar with the story.
“My dream has been to transform the myths and folktales of India into cinematic experiences, and with such a wealth of stories waiting to be told, this short film feels like the perfect place to start.” shares the director.

I think in the interest of the wider public and the richness of our culture, you need to release the whole film online (of course with the due promotion) as this is just a glimpse (and a very good one) of our culture and it needs to be experienced and enjoyed by everyone.

You have not yet replies on the rights to upload the trailer. As you officially breached rules. Need to complain it to FTII for taking over there property and removing there name from the producer credit

Heyy Siddharth, Just so you know the trailer came straight from the official team members of the film. You can also check our instagram account to see that the director of the film has officially added us as a collaborator in the trailer when they had released it for the first time. Hope it helps!

@@IFPworld The director doesn't hold the right of the film. It's the sole property of FTII. I guess you didn't check that and the Student Director also didn't informed you. Everything comes under the I&B ministry. Till now in the history none of the student films have been partnered with a Private Company.
