Sunil Gavaskar is the guy who has faced the deadly West indies bowlers without helmet. That was a different time,don't compare two eras. Virat Kohli is great but he really needs to respect what veteran Indian Cricketers have done for the Sport. India would not have been so Cricket Loving nation had they not won 1983 World Cup. Sunil Gavaskar is 100% right. And he's right, you don't have to have played at Kohli's level to be able to critique him. Which ICC trophy has Kohli won for India? He's blown 3 as Captain and 3 as a senior player. And now he doesn't want to be criticized. Just to refresh his memory, Gavaskar has won the WC for India against all odds and then went to Australia the following year and won the Benson & Hedges trophy. Kohli should ask Shastri if he has difficulty recalling Gavaskar's achievements. It's time for Kohli to shut up and deliver an ICC trophy for India instead of taking away opportunities from young talented Indian players who have to sit on the sidelines and watch these seniors blow WC after WC.

Whatever might be the debate, whatever media or experts say, Virat and Rohit should be conscious in this World Cup that due to Virat’s and KL’s slow strike rate in one day World Cup final match was lost. Please ensure that you don’t pick any player who has tendency to consume too many balls and overs to score runs. Anyone under 140-150 strike rate may not be suited for this format. Prefer players with strike rate around 170-180-200 capability. You look at other teams like West Indies, Australia

Gavaskar was a one man army.He did not have great players around him and had to carry the team on his shoulders. People may criticise him for his 36 runs in the World Cup but he got one of the fastest hundreds in the 87 World Cup.He adapted to the one day game. BTW he was the greatest test player that India has produced. Those days people used to switch off their radio sets whenever he got out.Today’s players feel they are above criticism and are surrounded by people who tell them what they like to hear. Their PR companies and the money has made them demi gods. They are not well educated and lack critical thinking ability. Hence the arrogance. They look down on former players and journalists who are doing their job. These are the same players who need the former players and journalists when they are starting out.

Evaluating a cricketer's performance in a critical manner implying to cast doubt on the ability of the player, especially in the middle of a prestigious international tournament, is quite premature. A sports person toiling in the field for his team may not be distracted by the untimely evaluation about his performance. If done then that would be unjust and uncalled for. There clearly is a lesson for Mr Gavaskar to maintain discretion and tone down his self styled authoritative approach.

For one's who are saying that people don't criticize Rohit :- You have a point 💯 But one thing I noticed that I don't see Rohit often speak about its critics like Kohli usually mentioned in post match interviews , if he ( Rohit ) says then he says in a humorous / funny way that it does not hurt anyone I think that's the reason behind it .

The problem with Mr. Gavaskar’s argument is that it’s not that he (or other commentators) only started criticising Virat for his strike rate after his 118 SR innings. It has been going on since a long time. But the reality is Virat’s SR is better than MS Dhoni in IPLs and equal to Rohit’s Sharma’s. If they don’t face any criticism, neither should Virat

Sunil Gavaskar has faced the deadly bowlers like m. Holding, c.Ambrose and many other leathal bowlers without helmet, without half circle rule, ie with more players outside the circle. And during their times they played 50 overs with one single ball. So virat kids, don't cry, your idol maybe a good player but he stands nowhere in front of these Legends.

Travis Head scored 58 off 45 and it was termed as a good inning on a difficult pitch but virat played slowly, Virat has a better strike rate than 5 of the top 6 who will be in the world cup squad and his team has been way too dependent on him because of fragile middle order, and if you talk about slow pitches, in thr world cup final last year, virat played the best in the side when the pitch got slower, kl rahul put pressure by playing way too many dot balls. Agenda is clear when no one questions on selection of rohit sharma in the side. Clearly west is trying to rule the game, rohit and pandya dont deserve to be in the side, rohit's stats as a captain or as a player are attrocious when it comes to t20. Ipl trophies cant be a parameter for captaincy as auction is the key there. A team like rcb or delhi capitals because of bad management loses in the auctions itself. But at intl level, we have seen what rohit brings to the table. Virat is still the backbone of the side

Sunil Gavaskar is the guy who has faced the deadly West indies bowlers without helmet. Virat Kohli is great but he really needs to respect what veteran Indian Cricketers have done for the Sport. No point in giving answers in such press conferences. Gavaskar is legend in Indian cricket maybe he should criticise everyone equally but Virat is no youngster now to think and read about these things about criticism on him. Virat is also legend now he should just focus on whatever his slight weakness and just aim to win this world cup that will be the greatest answer he can give to any questions thrown at him rather than replying on such post match conferences. Old players just use to shut social media or I should say didnt see any TV or read anything in news during any big event like world cup. He should follow it and just focus on his game.

Just waiting for another ICC debacle from these greats. They will continue to make a mockery of Indian Cricket year after year Sachin Tendulkar dropped himself and Dada from the inaugural T20 realising the fact that their skill sets are not at par. That was the God moment. He is truly a Bharat Ratna. Unlike few cricketers who feel of the field that they still have something left in them.
