i think most of human names usually don't fit a pet, there are few exceptions anyway, but they mostly get more objects, verbs or adjectives related names, for example we called our dog buster

my household history of pet names dogs - foxy (pomeranian but i genuinely thought she was a large squirrel or rodent at first, should’ve called her yappy) - berkeley (rip he was the sweetest little shih tzu!!!) cats - midnight (tuxedo cat i liked to call him mid-day or big boy because he was a chonky cat with disproportionately small paws, no one knew how old he truly was, outdoor cat, he literally slapped a stray cat across the face for hissing at beef) - cookie (rescue calico who had a few screws loose, walk into a room she was hanging on the curtain, was not allowed outside) - colby (but we called her beef, sweetest little brown tabby baby!!! her first owner called her shelby but we said NO, she was an outdoor cat and we think a neighbor stole her) - leo (orange tabby with ridiculously large paws, he totally thought midnight was his dad) turtle - rafael (but i called him eugene)

I'd say I go both ways, I name my pets (cats) whatever name I like and suits them, however, for human names I would give them a human name only if that name is known to be given for both men and pets, like Max, but I prefer to name them non-human names, I named my newborn cat Guoba for example.

Human names,but based on a feature of them as well
