I am watching this after they pushed the update for apps on mobile. Protonmail app looks beautiful and feels smooth. Loved this video.

Hey Sun! Love the video. If you just click on the email and then hit the Trash button, it only deletes the latest conversation. But if you select the email (click the left square on the email) it selects all conversations within the email. Hence why you may have thought that deleting the email was glitchy. This is a normal process of Proton Mail. :)

Fantastic! Just de-googled a brand new pixel 6 pro so am looking to only download and use privacy supporting apps on it. Proton unlimited with calendar, drive and a VPN looks like a winner to me and I'll just cross my fingers for the new phone app version to upgrade soon. Can't wait to see your take on GraphenOS and all the apps you'd recommend for it. *Subbed*

I love your content. I learn so much from it in relatively little time. Really looking forward to an episode on Graphene OS, as I've wanted to de-google my phone for many years now, but never really felt confident the lack of convenience would be compatible with my daily life. But I'd love to learn more. Also. A Tutanota episode would be nice. I just payed for two years of proton. And I think that's the best of my personal e-mail. But for anonymous online identities I want to use something else.

Thanks for the push Simon. I was very intimidated at first by GrapheneOS… but am very happy I switched. Looking forward to sharing my experience shortly.

Hello Sun, thank you for your review! Do you use SimpleLogin or any other alias services? Would you recommend using aliases? I'm curious about how you manage your workflow with multiple email addresses and whether you use your real name in those addresses.

When I click on "Add to calendar" from my proton email it goes to my Gmail calendar. I have a proton calendar. How can I change that? Thanks

This was published a year ago. This is how I understood end-to-end encryption. My email provider (web host with personal domain) uses SSL/TSL and said it's now standard for encryption. Is this is a new standard or is that not the same as end-to-end?

Hey sun, I've been using protonmail for a few months now. Did you see that you can let protonmail encrypt mails to external contacts automatically? I think you have to create a contact with the email address and then you can upload their public key. After that protonmail will encrypt the mails you send to that external contact. Of course, if you want to encrypt with the yubikey or if you want to prevent using the contacts feature, this isn't really an option. Thanks for bringing up the caveats about the contacts and push notifications. I wasn't aware of those.
@sunknudsen
@sunknudsen 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, yes! Thanks for pointing that out. That said, as you mentioned, feature relies on contacts. Cool though.

Thank you for taking the time to do this Sun. I know you mentioned that Proton isn't encrypted by default. Do you know if that is still the case 8 months on? I ask because I'm reading different things and am getting confused. Currently on their website it says 'Protect your communications with an encrypted email service that is private by default.' - Am I reading that it isn't encrypted by default. I just edited because I think I understand it like this: 1. Emailing proton to proton, as safe as it gets, noone is reading either inbox 2. Other email provider to your proton email - secure as it gets, noone is reading your proton inbox 3. You email from Proton to any other provider - not guaranteed to be secure, that's why the passcode key exists. Am I understanding that in simplest terms? Is there another email provider that is just as secure, or that offers a similar service to Google with notes etc? I would love an all in one service that is as secure as Proton claims to be, with password vaults and notes. Any recommendations / ideas would be appreciated :)

Dear Sun, you went for PGP via Homebrew. I already have installed Mac Ports which is also offering a PGP package. Do the two instances of PGP work the same from the perspective of your tutorial? Many thanks in advance, both for paying attention to this request, and for all the tutorials on the channel.
@sunknudsen

Hey Luca, I never installed GnuPG using MacPorts, but I would assume both link to same source code. That is what I would check first. If so, I expect guide to work the same.

Your Proton review as great but dated. You should do an update / especially since the apps are out. BTW - is there a way to synch proton calendar to apple calendar and MS Outlook calendar. Would like to specify which was to read only and the other to write.
