Jokes aside, this is some of the best music I’ve ever heard. It creates such a rich and dark atmosphere it feels like I’m in the vacuum of space, especially when you put it on a stereo full blast! I have no idea how Sunn came up with this, but goddamn it’s genius.

This has literally nothing to do with jazz. Yes, the people who made it may have heard a jazz record at some point in their lives, but that doesn't mean this was influenced by it. I've noticed this weird tendency lately for people to attribute any music they like to jazz, despite them having nothing at all in common. I can only imagine this is because "jazz" embodies some sort of mystique to them, but jazz is a (albeit large and diverse) genre of music that has certain characteristics (emphasis on improvisation, emphasis on creative musical phrasing, rhythmic nuance with special emphasis on 'swing', etc). This has none of those characteristics.

Anyway I seen ur comment about the vocals before I started the tune and holy hell ur right LOL but here's what I have to say. U heard the band the fall of Troy? Some of the most impressive instrumental groups to spawn from the early 2000s post punk thing, and holy shit their vocals are so bad I actually just accept them as just as good as the instrumentals. I think I'll view sunno this way as well. Anyway just my 2 cents. Like who cares if u don't like the vocals cuz the instrumentals are so good u just kind have to take em too

@@danyukhin That was most likely credits for both music and lyrics. Annunakis and ancient conspiracies was something Mayhem was writing about around this time (2005-2015) that Attila rejoined, so I think it is very likely Attila wrote the lyrics himself

Sunn O))) gets shit from metal fans about "not being music", but they likely wouldn't say the same thing about the avant-garde string section that comes in during this song. If you heard all that atonal, non-linear screeching on it's own without Sunn O)))'s droning, you might not like it, but you also wouldn't rush to say it's not music. Agartha does the best job of any Sunn O))) song in showcasing what the whole point of the band is. It's about what you can learn about music when you aren't tethered to a fixed idea of how you're supposed to do things.

How do you even record stuff like this? "Oh, hang on, I stuffed up that last bit, can we take the last 30 mins of ambient noise again, from the top?" There must be a point where they don't even really write their stuff, just have a vague vibe they're going for and then improvise around it. Weird, not really sure it's for me, but I can believe it's a different experience live.

SmevMev Definitely. They most definitely improv around with their riffs. This music is intended to be listened to at extreme volumes. Seeing them live was nuts. Your whole body shaking in harmony with the riffs makes literal of the expression, "feeling the music."

It's definitely audible, and has a strong emotional power, not to mention the aesthetic of tube amplifiers and distortion.
