I'm a FN person and I live in a reserve. I agree with this guy, he's not a racist or a bigot, he's just telling the truth. Calling people racist is a serious accusation, if you're going to call someone a racist, you'd better have evidence/proof. First Nations people have to start asking where all the money given by the government is going.

Awiya Nish That explains a lot. Left leaning people tend to victimize any weaknesses they have as people and turn it into a national issue. Why we need to privatize it. It's nothing but government funded anti-government propaganda lol.

Ask your Chief and Council for a copy of the Federal Transfer Agreement (FTA). Whatever First Nation you are from, you are entitled to a copy. If they do not give you a copy write a letter to the Chief & Council and cc their funding source, also keep a copy. You may have to write this letter for 3 months, if you do it is preferable to write the letter on or after the same date as the first letter you sent. If by the fourth month on the same day you do not receive a copy of the then send a letter to their funding source and cc the Chief and Council. The funding party will send you a copy. You also have a right to anything that is in your name, i.e. any cheques that were made in your name within the fiscal year unless you ask for other years, you can also ask for expenditures on improvements on your home if it is registered in your name, etc. Hope this helps.

I'm native and I somewhat agree with this guy. Even though I think he's a racist, there is a lot of corruption on native reserves in Canada. I'm from a reserve and I don't even know how much our chief makes, and is it a coincidence that all of his childhood friends run the reserve with very little education? Hmmmm....

I own 40 acres of land where I live and work. I operate a 10 acre organic farm and a small ranch. I use “Ancient Native American Farming Techniques” - I plant crops (that are condensed together) on rolls of mounds with small ditches dug between every other roll of mound. I use an ancient soil rotation (preserving soil and space) I built an irrigation system bringing in water from a near by river. I move my farm and ranch around every few years to save soil and protect against erosion.

For example if First Nation students attend “public schools” they have to pay “tuition”. First Nations pay for all their programs and services out of their allocated budgets and at a higher cost than other Canadians. (most programs are subsidized and First Nations do not qualify for those subsidies) Yet First Nations are funded at a far lower level than other Canadians for those same services.

Taxes pay for public services like roads and water, and First Nations communities are notoriously under-serviced. A 2005 study by the Assembly of First Nations found that, per capita federal funding for First Nations citizens is $7,200. That’s far lower than the amount that the government spends on the population in general. In Ottawa, for instance, the combined per capita spending by all three levels of government totalled $14,900, more than double the amount being spent on-reserve.

First Nations, don't receive any kind of compensation from Canada. First Nation signed treaties with Canada. The treaties define the PAYMENT for acquiring lands by Canada. MONETARY SETTLEMENTS were made, and that money is “Held In Trust” by Canada. Canada holds First Nations LANDS “In Trust” and collects royalties from RESOURCES on First Nations lands which Canada also holds “In Trust”.

A buddy of mine is an urban native who works his butt off, has a lovely apartment and takes pride in what he's achieved. He's dismayed by what goes on on his reserve where most of his family still live. He has shared some of the issues that trouble him. Elections are a total sham. People are not only bribed to vote a certain way but are intimidated or beaten by hooligans hired by candidates. In 1876, the Indian Act gave the government control of Indian economic and resource development and land use. They became what Calla calls “wards of Canada,” which didn't allow them to engage in economic development. That’s why the FN is demanding action for sovereignty. For well over 100 years the Canadian Government has oppressed and mismanaged Native, treaty money and resources…Natives need sovereignty, but you only see the Natives has “Welfare recipients”

The federal government has made little effort to explain the policy to Canadians, allowing an unhealthy resentment to grow. There has been little counterpoint to the pressure from the right on this issue. Given the public confusion, it seems a worthwhile exercise to actually do the math and see what light it sheds on the matter.

More to the point, the tax exemption in no way compensates for shortfalls in funding to First Nations. The provinces spend more than 20 percent more on children than the federal government does on First Nations children, whether those kids are in school or under child welfare services care. The disadvantage to First Nations children from these two policies alone amounts to far more than the foregone tax revenues, and there are dozens of other examples.
@Thomas_Oklahoma

First Nations pay for ALL their own programs and services from the money “Held In Trust” by Canada. TAXES pay for Canadian programs and services. First Nations don't pay those taxes that provide programs and services to other Canadians. If a First Nations member lives or works off the First Nation they are taxed in the same manner as every other Canadian resident. None of those taxes benefit the First Nations communities even if the worker lives on a First Nation.

In addition some First Nations have "Band Moneys" (from royalties derived from reserve lands) and some First Nations have "Taxation" dollars that Canada "Holds in Trust". Canada dictates the expenditures of that money on a per-capita and formula basis and provides the First Nations with the guidelines and the audit procedures on how they can spend their own money.

Many First Nations citizens see their tax-exempt status as a function of the treaties and other legal arrangements with the Crown, or as partial compensation for the resources taken from the lands. They believe that imposing an income tax would be not only unfair, but unconstitutional.

Today, with “The Indian Act” which is in existence since colonization, the land, resources, laws and money is managed (for the most part) by the “Canadian Aboriginal Affairs” under the Canadian Government. This Act created the abusive Residential Schools too and other numerous Human Rights violation. New Acts or Laws need to be created giving “Sovereignty” to First Nations. Hundreds of billions of dollars of resource revenue was mismanaged by the Canadian Government.

The key lies in the Government policies. Change the system and give sovereignty to the First Nations. As a sovereign Nation, the private sector in every FN will have to pay taxes to the Feds, but don't pay taxes to the Providences because both the providences and Reserves are sovereign entities free from Federal dictatorships. The Reserves will have to follow Federal Laws and International Laws just like the Providences do.

As a educated First Nations individual I was tasked with figuring out how to remedy the housing problem on a reserve, one that is a common problem. The conclusion of that study identified tribal mismanagement of funds as the cause. We have people living in squalor while the chiefs and counsellors live high on the hog. This problem is also prevalent on my home reserve as well. It's not racism to demand accountability. Time to clean our houses(reserves) before someone else does it for us!

Local laws need to be governed by the Tribal Government. Each Tribal Gov and people from each Reserve together can create their own Constitution which will hold each other accountable. Elections need to be handled locally free of Federal dictatorship. Divide the land by “Allotted Land” (Individual Owner Ship) and in Common (for the traditionalist living off the land) with some land owned by the Tribe for parks, gaming, recreation, Government buildings, museums etc.

Thomas NH, the government is AUDITED and their laundry hung out, and so are all government departments. So when we hand out billions each year, why shouldn't the taxpayer know where that money is going? Don't you agree that the native people themselves would benefitfrom such audits? The Indian Act First Nations tax exemption is very narrow and applies only to personal property and income located on a reserve. Natives pay all other taxes not covered by the narrow exemption. The tax exemption only involves about 272,000 Native people when you subtract the number of children aged 0-14 from the potential tax paying base. That number is actually even lower because a number of Natives have exchanged tax exemption for other benefits in self-governing Final Agreements.

the question is NOT: "how many rich chiefs are there?" the question is: "how many chiefs overlook massive government budgets for their reserve---that have millions of dollars unaccounted for---and have gone seemingly NO WHERE into thee reserves they are sworn to protect?" the answer? TOO MANY.

It helps to explain why the entire $90 million over 7 years was not allocated to the construction of new houses. That $90 million includes funding for things like: Education per pupil Education infrastructure (maintenance, repair, teacher salaries, etc) Health care, infrastructure (clinic staff, access to services outside the community in the absence of facilities on reserve) Social services (facilities, staff, etc.) Infrastructure (maintenance and construction) A myriad of other services

You see, for non-natives, the provinces are in charge of funding things like education, health care, social services and so on. For example, the Province of Ontario allocated $10,730 in education funding per non-native pupil in the 2010-2011 fiscal year. For most First Nations, particularly those on reserve, the federal government through INAC is responsible for providing funds for native education.

The NWPA was never intended to protect the environment but was designed to make sure waterways were safe for navigation. There are still many statutes written specifically to ensure sound environmental standards and management, for instance the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act.

In 2013 my c&c took the donated money away from the flood victims ,that money was supposed to go to each flood victim but instead the chief and councilors decided to take it and split it amongs themselves and now they've done it again ... Last year in 2021 the flood happened again in chateh alberta canada ,people from across alberta (the tax payers) donated money to the people who had thier house damaged from the flood.. but.... My chief and councilors decided to take the money from the flood victims again ... it's no wonder they all have nice things at home & have nice trucks If it wasn't for you tax payers who donated money to the flood victims of chateh alberta in 2013 and 2021 My chief and councilors wouldn't be Ballin and flexing On that money that's rightfully the flood victims money, they literally just took it from the people who needed it to get new things after the flood damaged everything in thier homes But my selfish chief and councilors decided "let's just split it together" And never gave a single dime to a flood victim The only thing my chief and councilors had my band to do is offer a "bed" to each home But where's the money ? Oh yeah... i forgot it went to thier personal wants and needs

With land and resources freed up on allotted lands, Entrepreneurship will develop creating businesses, jobs and economic development. Tribes should be allowed to negotiate their own trade agreements internationally as long as they don‘t violate Federal and International Laws. People will create their own “Private Organizations” to assist people in need, which will limit the need for Government funding. The private sector would be taxed by the Tribe and the Feds.

It's hard to picture Ezra working for mainstream media after only seeing him at The Rebel. It seems as if starting your own media network can lead to significant weight gain!! Ezra Levant is a gem and is doing God's work by standing up to the Liberals, NDP and any other entities with influence that believe in Marxist ideology and want to destroy everything that has allowed Western civilizations to flourish, such as free speech, equality of opportunity and strong family values and morals.

in what world would a chief who unfairly accumulates money from their reserves budget ADMIT the amount of funds/benefits they possess from it Theresa Spencer is a canadian chief. "A 2012 financial audit commissioned by the Government of Canada for the years found a lack of documentation to account for millions of dollars spent by the Attawapiskat Band Council between 2005 and 2011.[11][12] When the audit was released to the public, Spence responded by accusing Canada of acting in bad faith "

Agreed. Thank you. Let's work towards enabling the First Nations People to have power over their own lives and not have to exist on the meager crumbs tossed their way by unscrupulous, greedy, self-serving Chiefs. This is NOT to paint all Native Chiefs with the same brush. We know there are many good leaders, but sadly we only hear about those who are not. Accountability and more leaders with INTEGRITY is what's needed for every First Nations man, woman and child to live a life they desire!!

Full disclosure would solve this problem. One might think we would all be in agreement and fairness and justice might have a role. Or we could allow non-disclosure to continue and point fingers and blame the poor for lack of education.

2 More to the point, the tax exemption in no way compensates for shortfalls in funding to First Nations. The provinces spend more than 20 percent more on children than the federal government does on First Nations children, whether those kids are in school or under child welfare services care.

They’re very successful cases of First Nations that have already started taxing their members and have achieved a greater degree of self-governance and economic success as a result. For example, the Westbank First Nation near Kelowna, B.C., initiated a tax on its people nearly two decades ago and this helped pave the way for it to receive legal self-government status in 2003.

We're talking about an issue stemming from 150 years of history, a marginalized population who's living conditions earn Canada a failing grade in terms of human rights. The federal government, held to their treaties signed a century ago, are still supporting voluntary apartheid, on which suicide rates are over five times the national average, illeteracy and sexual abuse; rampant. If you have a solution to ANY of these complex issues that would not result in a genocide, we're all listening.

there are 3300 elected First Nations officials..of those 114 make over $100,000..that's 3%. 15 of those are from Alberta. In Alberta 10yrs ago a 3 bedroom trailer was going for 250,000 during the oil boom. Sadly, In any form of government there are those that are corrupted, but FN's are largely transparent and accountable as they are subject to government yearly audits. And I refer to the overall average salary out of the 3300.

Why are people in Canada living in such poverty? why do so many problems exist within a lot of these communities ( more so then most ) ? how can we start fixing these problems ? How is money spent ? do people know how the money is spent ? how can we go about fixing the problems within the system? I think these are all fair questions to be asking.
