The Sunny Day Market Bag crochet pattern is an easy pattern to work. It is worked from the bottom up using basic crochet stitches. Skill Level: Easy
Gauge: 17 sts x 9 rows of dc = 4 inches
Finished Size: Approximately 13 x 20 inches excluding the handles
Yarn: 24/7 Cotton by Lion Brand® (186 yds/170 m; 100g/3.5 oz; 100% cotton; (4) worsted weight). You will need 2.5 balls Lemon
Hook: Size G/6 (4 mm) hook.

So no one is having trouble with this one like I'm having, Sarah help....LOL. My round one of side one is not ending with a 2dc ch1 2dc. My round is ending the opposite way. I have 144 stitches. I have redone it twice getting ready to do it a third time. To see where I'm going wrong.

I don't work as well with cotton yarn, so I make these bags with acrylic yarn, and they seem very "stretchy" to me, particularly the handles. Is there any adaptation to account for the stretch? Would it be appropriate to make the bag smaller. Would shortening the handles be a better solution? I love the bags, and I enjoy making them, but I find them somewhat hard to use because of the stretch and the size. I wonder if the cotton shrinks with washing, and that makes a difference or if a smaller hook or yarn size would make a smaller bag without changing stitch count. Most of my yarn is acrylic #4 or 5 with a G hook.

I would suggest trying a cotton blend yarn. Hopefully, the cotton portion would reduce stretch, and the blend (acrylic, bamboo, viscose) would help with ease of use.

This cotton brand is actually quite nice to work with as it doesn’t split. It is listed as a medium weight #4, but it’s thin and a size G-4 hook is recommended. I’ve used it to make one of the market bags from last year and I take it with me every time I go shopping 😊

When I use acrylic yarn I add a fabric liner. That reduces the stretch almost completly.
