So basically Native VLAN traffic does not need a tag to travel, that makes it so useful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Thanks for a clear explanation on Native Vlan. I have a suggestion: the telephone exemple is a great way to explain the native vlan usefulness. I suggest you add another pair of PC/computer to shwo that you can assign a different vlan on each trunk port. Thank you. It took me a while to be familiar with the concept. you helped me a lot.

We cannot change the default VLAN. We cannot even delete the default VLAN. It is the default setting. It is VLAN 1. - - - ok just move all the ports to a different vlan # int range fa 0/1-24 # switchport access vl 5 (or any)

i don't understand one thing. if i have two switches connected, i set the native vlan 10 as native vlan, if the traffic flows without tagging on the trunk i have no problem to let pc A and pc B to comunicate, but if pc A has to comunicate with a pc C on an access port with pvid 10 on the switch i need an hybrid port, so i can say if something untagged comes to the port set the tag 10, so pc A and pc C (the one on the access port ) can comunicate. i dont find very usefull this scenario.

Question, from the last example about using the naive VLAN, what would happen if Computer that connects to up phone also has VLAN tag?
@sunnyclassroom24
@sunnyclassroom24 4 жыл бұрын
Great question! We might need a router to direct the traffic so that the data traffic is delivered through the phone. In that situation, the phone functions as a switch for the computer. There might be some configurations.

@@sunnyclassroom24 Realizing this is two years old, but why would a computer have a VLAN tag? Computers send and receive untagged frames, the tags are assigned and removed at either end of the trunk, correct?

Im using a cisco switch 2960 and when I configure the native vlan I can see it with the show int trunk command, but I never created that vlan so I do not see it in the show vlan brief, why? does switchport trunk native vlan not create the vlan? or it is not required to create it manually?

@Sunny Classroom, can I ask you about best practises for more than two native VLANS? I need to do upgrade my distribute switches from L2 to L3. To do this I will need to create new networks admin subnets for all access and distribute switches. During above procedure we will have transition period (several months) where I will need to have (on my core switch L3) several VLANS configured as a native on uplinks to distribute switches. What about such setup and what should I remember or pay attention on?
