Couldn't manage to get an American flight with less than three stops for this trip to the Virgin Islands, so my agent booked me on Delta instead! The MD-90s are very nice, not too cramped, and those IAE engines certainly have some power! Please comment, like, and subscribe! Flight 553 to Atlanta. 2/21/14.

Nice video. Those MD-90s are really nice birds. Too bad they don't make them anymore. The A32Xs and 737s are so dull by comparison. My all-time favourite, though, is the 727. There's a plane with real character!

I spent 7 years flying the 727 for Delta. It's a great plane and I really enjoyed it. Underpowered by today's standards but it flew as well as any jet I've flown. Great control harmony and incredible high lift devices. Faster in its day or today (save the L1011) than any other airliner. Flying the shuttle you'd descend or climb at 400kts indicated (yes the aerodynamic noise was painful).

I love the sound of the MD-90, since before rotation, it sound like the boat my dad used when we went to the Florida Keys. Brings back good memories!

Avakrob, The MD-90's are good jets. It's basically a re-engined hi-tec DC-9. The DC-9 is a tough and reliable airplane. The DC-9 started with the short stubby -10 model (no slats) and continued with the longer -30, even longer -50 and a few international customer variants. The DC-9-80 was re-branded the Dash 80 as McDonnell & Douglas merged and the venerable DC brand was sullied after the numerous DC-10 accidents (hence the follow on to the DC-10 was the MD-11). The MD-90 has even better engines than the MD80. A subsequent MD-90 with a shorter body was named the B-717, since Boeing bought McDonnell/Douglas.

MD-95/717 was actually a lengthened DC-9-40 with BR715s. You can tell mainly by the wing which has no tip extension or section in the root inboard of the trapezoidal area..

This is a dynamic takeoff video! I like the ATC transmissions throughout the video! Gives you that "inside the cockpit" type feeling even though you are in the cabin! Great job once again!

NICE VIDEO! However that initial climb seemed very flat, it even almost looked like you dropped a bit when the flaps came up! LOL! I'm sure you didn't! again great clip!

I could see the Methodist Hospital on 7700 Floyd Curl Dr. Actually, I can see the rear of the hospital on Ewing Hassell Dr., Louis Pasteur Dr., Medical Dr., and Fredericksburg Road

nice takeoff, as you did to put the ATC, audio? if you sitting in the rear of the plane, hear every conversation in the cockpit and air traffic controller.Nice Vid.

I'm going to miss the MD-88s when they retire. The USA has 3 airlines with the MD-80 series planes. American Airlines, Delta Airlines, and Allegiant Air. All there MD-80 Series planes will be retired by 2019 and 2020. Those planes used Pratt & Whitney AD8D engines and there not very fuel efficient. As for those engines at full thrust I don't think they buzz like the airbus engines do. They hum. And yea the MD-90 uses IAE engines like airbus uses. Delta airlines is the only US airline to fly these planes. And there more fuel efficient.
