The immense natural splendor of central Oregon is unveiled on an unforgettable sunrise flight.
Our adventure begins before sunrise, engines sputtering to life at Prineville Airfield. My intrepid pilot, Rob, expertly guides our Grumman AA-5 into the sky, leaving behind the sleepy town as dawn paints the horizon with fiery hues. As we climb, Smith Rock State Park awakens beneath us, its jagged peaks silhouetted against the golden light. The Three Sisters, draped in snow and alpenglow, rise like slumbering giants, their reflections shimmering in the mirror-like surface of Cultus Lake.
Soon, the crown jewel of Oregon reveals itself: Crater Lake National Park. Wizard Island, a snow-capped sentinel, emerges from the sapphire depths, contrasting dramatically with the deep blue water. We follow Highway 97, weaving between volcanic peaks and high desert valleys, before making our descent back to Prineville PRZ, landing with hearts full of awe and memories etched in the sky.
Special thanks to Rob for being a fantastic pilot.
