Honestly, I don't think they believed teh winter would never end. For generation upon generation, the winter had ALWAYS ended, the sun had ALWAYS come back. Why would that change? But humans have always looked to the sun. Pyramids have similar sun trackers built into them, and I"m sure other large stone structures on other continents do, too. They sure had a cool way of timing the solstice sunrises, and probably the timing of the equinoxes, too. But fearing that winter wouldn't end? doubtful

the actual way of the soltice is about spiritual power and beginning of a new era with these stones, many of the celtic religion is with mother nature involving animisim, druidism and paganism, throught outs its years of spirituality is with these stones

I ahve seen SO MANY documents, with scientists and Historians and what not saying "yyyeah, if the original people who amde these wouldsee these people, they would think thye are nuts" Theres something about the "common" knowledge that is incorrect, and apparently people are standing and being exited for the wrong reasons. I get bored with the documents very soon, so I never end them, but the knowledge gives me small titters at times...

What I don't get is what all these people are expecting to accomplish. Most historians, though they debate what the particular purpose was, all say Stonehenge was built for some specific purpose or another. And considering there are thousands of people there all doing different things, which one is following the intended purpose? Shouldn't that be the only one that accomplishes something there?
