I wish people would talk about nukes more. I wish people feared them more. Our leaders now seem to act tough and fearless like its a game. Back in the day the US and the USSR were more responsible. They always kept communications open. Today i think we might be in trouble.

The USSR did a fairly good job of acting like an actual country. What's in charge in "Russia" now is the gangsters that the USSR had kept suppressed. The only saving grace there is that "Russia" may have actually sold their nuke weapons on the black market for I dunno, heroin and solid gold belt buckles or some shit.

What would be point of evacuating from nuclear attack? No where would be safe to go. That woman had the best attude and that was to stay in her home with her husband and die there. If my mum was still alive she would be in her 90s by now, we would not of evacuated and stayed in her bungalow and died together there.

Same story here, my Ma would not have left , and all the strength in the world ,would not have dragged me from her ,despite ,what I know ,would have been her protestations to try help myself. Its not bravery ,I think it is peace of mind ,and its not a debt paid either ,but an appreciation and a final choice. I KNOW ,my father ,taken from us years before ,would have known why . If someone doesnt understand it ,doesnt mean they are bad , but they never will.

This was an outstanding film, the couple made the right decision for them in their situation. The aftermath of nuclear conflict would be hell on earth. Possibly almost certainly some will live through it but not the elderly, we are toast either way. So yes those two were brave and honorable people who made a good choice, for themselves. Thought provoking. This movie reminded me of the early 1960s when there was a strong threat of nuclear war. I remember coming home from school and I was young then and so afraid. We had drills in school and in our town. The war sirens were tested frequently. All we heard on the radio and read in the papers were the real possibility of nuclear war. This movie depicts well the conversations I heard between my parents, family and friends.

2021 - Nice to see the "diversity" of people gathered together and enjoying each other's company - initially, but this scene would be quite rare today, at least for me where I reside. This is what America could & should be, but today we are so polarized. Anyways, there's nothing like a good breakfast & coffee with those you love. Then they can drop the "Big Egg". I had a temporary job assignment to do a 'manual labor' type work at a VA hospital in the mid 1970's. While removing - renovation - originally installed lockers (late 1940's), the workers placed period items behind before installation. Cool. One item was a municipal Civil Defense warning sign that would be posted on the wall. Instructions in case of a 'Nuclear Attack'. Last thing listed: If you see a Bright Flash take cover Immediately. Instead, the world was given another 'Bomb'. The Russian Invasion of the Ukraine. February 24, 2022. Never know; we just might see the "Flash". The most sentimentally, enjoying elements are the interactions between the focused people in the movie pending the ultimate interruption of their lives.

I greatly dislike how stupid and delusional the women are portrayed in this movie. Why are they so unreasonable, so totally without a single logical thought? And why can't they even follow any logical explainations or their husbands' advice? As a woman, mother and grandmother, I wouldn't be anything like these delusional women. And I have already proved to be more thoughtful and logical in bad situations in my past.

I get the impression the writers possessed a profound dearth of knowledge regarding the history, design and configuration - let alone use - of strategic weapons. It really undercuts the drama. Although the days of multi-MT warheads raining down by the tens of thousands are gone its worth noting that most modern weapons are considerably smaller in the 350-550Kt range and far fewer in number with about 3800 active weapons around the world - down from 70-80k that were active just 40 years ago. Instead of this canned, almost maudlin "after school special" production, I would recommend watching Threads (1984) where +300Mt was dropped on the UK over a course of sixteen hours (and after a realistic spiral from crisis to war).

This is a clear case of what not to do! The senior couple had a basement, they could have fortified it and been more safe instead of dancing in the living room and being blown to smithereens. As far as the couple who decided to get on the road, my guess is they never made it 20 miles. You can not out run a nuclear attack, stay put and protect yourself from the blast and fallout. Those who live in big cities have less of a chance of survival unless they have access to a bomb shelter because any roads out of the city will be gridlock. I live in the deep south, in a state that has no military installation that would be deemed a target. If you survive what comes afterwards, being in a warmer weather state increases your ability to have water and food that's not contaminated. It's pie in the sky thinking I know, but we have enough sense to know we're at the precipice where anything is possible. BTW, we have guns to protect ourselves from the lawlessness sure to follow when society has been decimated!

Clearly you are young, that couple made the best possible choice at the end of their lives. In that situation and at their age, life would be short and horrific. Something a young couple might live through but for those in their senior years, it simply is not possible. They are examples of brave and honorable people, not to mention in the end we are all going to die, how better in the arms of those you love, at peace with your life. There is no such thing as limited nuclear war, once it starts we will all be back in the stone age, most likely looking at a new ice age. The last time we did that we were a hell of a lot tougher and even then only about 10000 humans lived by the time it was done.

But perhaps it is possible you do not have clear understanding of what life would be like after a nuclear exchange. I am not sure what choice I would make myself under those circumstances but I certainly understand the context of why this couple choose as they did. What surprises me is that you do not. Would life in pain and with loss of ones dignity really mean that much to you? You need to remember that we are not just talking about the guy but his wife who was disabled. After a strike there will be no medical for anyone especially those of us who are older. I hope neither one of us ever has to face such a choice. @@charlescoffey9523 Firstly I'd like to direct you to a couple of movies on YT, Threads and The Divide. I've been through some stuff, the cold War in the 50's where we had weekly drills at school where we had to get under our small wooden desks and put our arms over heads to protect ourselves incase of a nuclear attack. The Soviet Unions threat when President Kennedy and Khrushchev almost came to nuclear blows, the World at the time understood this could have been the end had not Kennedy out maneuvered the Russian. Having survived Hurricanes mud slides fires and so many earthquake's I lost count, plus the worst tornado I've ever experienced and survived last week and still in recovery mode. The moral of my story is I never once gave up on living no matter what it might look like. While nuking the planet would be devastating to recover from preparation is key. It will be a struggle for whatever time is remaining to you, but giving in has never been part of my plan. PPE's, I have two gas masks and extra filters, water purifiers food and all the necessary personal survival equipment. Are you nuts?! NOTHING HAPPENED. Zero. Zilch. Talk and more talk. This movie is 100% worthless crap. So, what's the other movie you've seen? Planet 9 From Outer Space?!

@@MegaMkmiller Don't insult Plan 9 from Outer Space like that, Plan 9 is actually entertaining, it is legendary plus it has my darling Maila Nurmi in it. You're right though, this movie is nothing but talk, a bunch of cheesy lines delivered by bad actors and overall crap.

It does read like the strange child of an old After School Special and the low-budget Outer Limits revival from the 80's, right up to the punch-out ending.
